Printer wont produce red on pictures

You need to take out red cart and pull off the tape. It's normally yellow but could be any color. Pull the plastic tape off, and put the cartridge back in, run a few head cleaning cycles and your ready to go.

Printer goes about its normal printing actions, sounds, the tray moves back and forth and it sounds and seems like its printing but then the paper comes out and nothing at all is printed on it. Both...

Make sure that the plastic part is taken off the ink cartridges. They are usually sealed with an orange, yellow, or red plastic tape-like thing over the bottom part of the cartridges.

You may also want to run a "clean head" process on the printer. This can also help if there is no plastic thing covering the ink cartridge.

How do i replace my ink cartages

Removing a used print cartridge:
  1. Make sure the printer is on.
  2. Lift the scanner unit. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the printer is busy.
  3. Press down on the lever to raise the cartridge lid.
  4. Remove the used print cartridge.

To install a new cartridge, remove the sticker from the back and bottom of cartridge. Insert the new cartridge in the slot. Close the lid. Lift the scanner unit, press the scanner support back until it slides into the slot, and close the scanner unit.

Lexmark X2400... have one.. apparently it doesn't exist to anyone else? anyway...

According to Lexmarks site, they will be producing a driver that you can download for the X2400 to work with Vista shortly. They don't have a driver for Vista yet.

Sorry, you will have to wait or buy a new printer.

Good Luck

Warning: This can be messy. Covering your counter or table and wearing thow away plastic gloves is strongly recommended. Take all the ink cartridges out. Wipe the rims of the ink ports and seal with tape or peel & stick label, to stop them from drying out and set aside. Flip up the plastic lever on the right side of the ink cartridge holder box. This will release the hold down mechanism that keeps the print head in solid contact with the electrical contacts at the back of the ink cartridge holder. Gently lift out the actual print head. You may have to gently use a straightened out paper clip to rock it out so you can get it with your fingers. Get a small plastic tub (cottage cheese or yogourt container) etc., and soak it in rubbing alcohol for an hour or two. Put enough over it to also soak the ink screens on the other side from the printing part of the head. Clean gently with a Q-tip and alcohol. Inspect the bottom side with a magnifying glass if available, and get any dried ink off. Change the alcohol and do this again until all ink is gone. Finally, shake the alcohol out over a newspaper (watch, i'ts messy) and leave overnight to dry. Clean the gold dots with alcohol just before you put it back in. It is important not to touch the gold or the actual printing part of the print head. Put it all back together and run a few head cleanings thin a nozzle check. If the problem persists, call Canon and order a new print head. Approx. $60-70. Good luck.
