That normally means that the disk is gettgin scratched is your xbox laying down or standing up? If its standing up and is bunped slightly the disk can shift and get scratched. Check your games for scratch rings around them.

Xbox 360 is loud - sounds like a loud fan motor. How can I make it run quietly?

You can try installing the game you want to play on the Xbox 360 Hard Disk, which reduces the motor noise to an extent, however there is no permanent way to fix the loud fan motor noise while playing the game with the disk in the drive.

Make sure you keep your Xbox 360 unit well ventilated, ensure it does not gather dust near the small vents and openings on the unit.

My xbox 360 is making a loud constant noise only while playing games. please help

i had this problem too. if you bought the xbox 360 when it first came out the power box is the first version of the 360 and it will be loud if it isnt hurting your games this isnt a problem i can understand it is annoying though. the reason it does this is that the 360 is computer software so it will be loud like a computer but they made improvements in them if you buy a new power box it will decrease sound greatly i have done this with my own xbox. i hope this helps

Loud buzzing noise

Mine is loud also when playing games. When playing DVD's it is not. I think it is a factory defect on some of the systems. I would not attempt to pull apart the DVD drive and try and fix it. It is working and on an XBOX 360 you should feel lucky that it is.

My Xbox 360 makes a loud humming noise while i play

The Xbox 360 does not like to be moved when playing a disk some of the mechanics may have misaligned or slightly out of sync this may be reason the DVD drive is making those sounds.

I strongly recommend you remove any visible dust from the 360 especially the sides and air vent holes using a vacuum cleaner. Once youve cleaned it place it horizontal (never on carpet) on a flat surface well ventilated away from other devices that generate a lot of heat.

As for the 'shredding sound', place in **** game into the 360 when it starts to make those sounds again gently tap the 360 on top (where the DVD drive is) until it stops making that sound. This doesnt always work but has for me and many others.

My experience tells me that dust can build up not only inside the 360 but also the drive itself which can lead disc read errors and the sounds and you mentioned.

Remember DUST and HEAT is the 360's biggest enemy and can cause RROD, 1 Red Light Problem, and disk errors.

Hope this helps..good luck!

Loud humming noise coming from 360

The loud humming noise is usually the DVD drive. It is very fast but is very loud. If you have the NXE dashboard you can download games to you Xbox 360 to run them from the hard drive (you will still need to put in the disk for copy protection issues). The Xbox should make less noise then. Try to mount the Xbox 360 on a hard surface which is in contact with a soft floor to reduce the noise travelling through your home.
If it is making a loud noise while there is no disk in the drive then take the console to a Microsoft dealer whenever you can to have them take a look at it.

The drive motor is SERIOUSLY damaged. It will have to be replaced, but good luck finding parts. Call around to local service shops and see if any have parts units.
