DirecTV receiver R15 won't respond to remote RC23

DirecTV DVR receiver R15 won't respond to remote RC23 (or any of the other 2 remotes in the house). Remote will control other receivers in the house, batteries are new, and remote still controls TV. Receiver is set to IR and I have tried MUTE+SELECT 0001 thru 00008. Any suggestions please???

Well, I took the DVR apart and found the power board completely intact, no bulging capacitors. However, the Mother Board had a 220uf/50volt cap that was bulging, so I replaced it. By the way, 'DigiKey' is the only place to go for electronic parts. They'll hook you up! The DVR still wouldn't respond to the remote. Darn it!
So I took both of my DVR's apart and swapped out the Front Board (the one with the Photoamplifier in it) and the DVR would now respond to the remote. OK, so now what do I do. I still have one DVR with a bad Front Board. I started to look on ebay for an old used R15 500 that I could swap parts from...remember, I own my eqipment and the goal is to preserve what I have recorded on the Hard Drive. R15's were going for around $50 -$80. Then I got to thinking. I still had an old non-DVR Direct TV Receiver in my closet I never planned to use again. My thought was: even though it wasen't the exact model receiver, it did use the same remote, so the frquency that the Photoamplifier worked at should be compatible.
So I took apart this receiver unsoldered the Photoaplifier. I then removed the Photoamplifier from my malfunctioning DVR and installed the part from my unused Receiver and it fixed it. So long story short(too late for that) the Photoamplifier was faulty. I tried doing some cross checking and a company in China called Raytron makes the part. The failed part did not have a part # and Raytron has several different Photoamplifiers that operate at different frequencies. This made it impossible to find the right part without schematics or knowing what the freqency is. So at least we now know what caused the non responce to the remote.

I have 2 Direct tv DVR R15-500's. In the last 2 weeks the one in the front room has been exhibiting the same problems you have mentioned. But intermittently the DVR will respond to the remote and I am finding that there seams to be a pattern emerging. If the DVR is not recording and allowed to sit and cool down, the DVR will respond to the remote. However, when it starts recording something programmed, the DVR stops responding to the remote. It seems to be heat related or possible power board load related.
You see, I have 2 of these DVR's. One in the living room and one in a bedroom. 2 months ago the bedroom unit stopped working and the record and power lights were dim on the front of the DVR and a lightly audible clicking noise could be heard from inside the DVR. So I searched the internet and found this FIXYA site. I disassembled the DVR as instructed and removed the power board. Sure enough the Capacitors were bulging on top. I replaced all of the capacitors on the power supply output, I think 6 altogether. I reassembled the unit and it worked great.
Here's what I'm thinking. I think the power supply capacitors are failing in my front room DVR too. When I ordered the Panasonic capacitors for my bedroom unit I also ordered them for my front room unit but didn't install them because at that time it was working fine. So I'm going to open the DVR and inspect it's capacitors also. The power board has 6 outputs, at 3 different voltages. It goes to reason that the Infrared control board is separate from the Main Board and the Hard Drive. So the DVR may exihibit different problems with one cause. Remember, heat is electronic's enemy and cheap capacitor's will eat your lunch every time! So I will post again once I have performed exploratory surgery on my front room DVR.

I need the remote (RC23) code for a series 2 Tivo Model TCD54008

if the remote is RC23, the tivo codes are 01442 & 01142. If you actually have a Rc16, then you can only control the tivo partially with code 20618 on either AV1 or AV2 device slots.

DVR keeps restarting / rebooting

Jay .. if you still have the receiver. heres what you do. reset the receiver and when the blue screen comes up saying "Hello your directv receiver is starting up" On your remote type in 0 2 4 6 8 .. then it should go to a screen saying "new software found" . Let it download the update.. That should fix the issue .. However if it doesn't then it could be the hard drive. The pcb board on them usually fries.. but that can be ordered too... let me know how this works... you can email me at pimp_on@yahoo.com

Can I use a RC23 remote as a replacement for a RC32?

It will work, but as it is an earlier model remote, you may not have access to all of the features that the new remote provides. My son broke my remote, so I bought a new one for $15 and it arrived 2 days later. Here is the link to purchase a new remote: http://directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageNR.jsp?assetId=P4380074&footernavtype=-1

Directv remote code for polaroid tv

Slide top button on remote to tv. Press and hold mute and select button until the green light on the remote blinks twice. Then press 991. Then press 1. Then press the tv power button once. If the tv doesn't respond hit the channel up button on the remote. If that works press select to store the code and slide the switch back to the left. If it doesn't work keep hitting channel up until it does. It can take up to 30 minutes but it works.
