Orange is usually an indicator that it is currently charging, when the charge cycle is complete it will show a green light, if it doesn't turn to green after a few hours replace the battery.

The color flashing tells you how close you are to a full charge. The orange/red flashing should change to yellow and finally green. Sorry I have an original model so your's might be slightly different. Does it never change from orange/red?
The flashing green indicator is telling you (and the notebook) that the battery is almost fully charged, but then by switching immediately to flashing orange, the status has changed to "battery charge is low". This is not normal behaviour and probably indicates a serious issue with the battery. My guess is that the charging is initiating some kind of rapid battery self-discharge. Ref - Knowledge Base
Notebooks will power up and work without a battery just fine. Ref - Laptop Battery Basics dummies Try to operate yours this way. This will eliminate the battery from the loop as a potential cause of the BSODs you are seeing.
A replacement battery must be the EXACT same power spec as the original in DC volts and Milliamps, or you could damage the Mobo components. Some aftermarket batteries do not work well. The connections may be different.
Your battery may have Battery charge status indicator, when you press the button next to the 4 led indicators the LEDs indicate the charge status. Also the System Battery/Charge LED indicates the battery's current operational condition. Flashing orange indicates Battery failure.

Have you recently replaced the batteries? Or are you using rechargeable batteries? Lack of enough "Juice" could allow for the flash to not charge up (Orange) therefore not allowing the camera to get the correct exposure (Green). I would try new fresh batteries or a new battery pack. If that doesn't fix the issue it must be a bad circuitry in the body that is shorting not letting the flash charge.
What is the orange charging light doing? If it is just flashing on, or only staying on or a minuet, that means you need a new battery. The orange light foes on when the battery has been charged to its maximum capacity. After each charge, the capacity is decreased. So if the orange light is on for only a short time, get a new battery.
Had not used my camera for a while so I decided to but my battery on charge, once in the charger the orange light just kept flashing so I left this in "flashing" for a good hour or so.
I removed it and then replaced it, and it was still flashing so I decided to get a new battery (£40!). I put the new battery on charge over night and it charged great, so I thought I would re-try charging my old one before I sent it away for recycle, and guess what the orange light stopped ON and it was charging!
Not sure what happened here, it was either charge the old for an hour with light flashing and then remove and leave over night and re-try OR insert a good battery to re-set the charger?
The flash does not charge separate from the rest of the camera. Try cleaning the flash sensor on the front of the camera or the flash led may be bad.
Secondly, this light functions as a flash sensor which is trying to tell you that you need to use a flash although you may have the flash manually turned off. looks like a bolt of lightning with a circle/slash through it.
