The update wasnt completed and it is not having all the system files..and the start menu ..this can be fixed by recovery cd ...or the installing cd ....just boot from cd ...upload main files...after you get to the point the it shows previous operating systems..(not before) choose the line and click repair..(R) ..this will repair the system..
if you want to save the files from the C partition and reinstall it clean ...you can do that by runing task manager (ctrl/alt/del) the window will appear...In this point click on aplication ../new task from the right lower corner..and browse for folders...
Move by copy paste the folders with important data in the other partition oor on a mobile drive ..and reinstall it clean its the safest way ..

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Do not have a norton 360 icon on desktop only have norton internet secuirty or symantec live update which will not do anything when clicked on ( norton 360 not working on this computer )

Did you purchase the 360 program if so sometimes after you install it wont automatically place an icon on the desktop if you fail to check the little box during installation. If you have purchased it you can locate it in the start menu. Locate the folder and right click to pin a shortcut to the desktop.

If you cant find it in the start menu, the open the search menu and search "explorer", find the file with the extension .exe and set that one to the desktop. If you want to get rid of the shortcut arrow on the icon then right click the icon and go to properties, then you can change the icon to anything you want from there!!!! AVG will no install error 0x800736b1 also retrirve my desktop

Hi there. My name is Alex and Im here to help solve your problem

First of all, AVG has always had a problem installing when windows updates are enabled and download and install automatically. I would recommend uninstalling all updates that have been installed to your computer and disable automatic updates which I will explain to you below

To uninstall the updates.
Click start, settings and click control panel.
On the icon add and remove programs, please double click
You will now see all the programs and updates installed on your computer. The microsoft updates are located near to the bottom of the list and there may be a lot of them installed. You can only uninstall one update at a time. You may be prompted that uninstalling a windows update may cause a program not to work properly, this is normal so you can continue uninstalling them. When you have uninstalled these updates please restart your computer.

To disable the automatic updates

Right click on your icon My computer or My pc which is located on the desktop or on the start menu (if you are running windows xp) and select properties
You will then see a sub menu called 'Automatic updates' and inside this menu you will have the choice to disable the updates

If you are using windows xp and you have system restore enabled on your computer, then you will be able to take the computer back to an earlier time when it was working correctly. Please save all documents first to insure that nothing will be lost if you decide to do a 'system restore'. There is a very friendly wizard to help you restore your computer. You can get to the system restore by clicking start, programs, accesories, system tools and selecting system restore.

Regarding your problem about your desktop disappearing, to restore your icons on the desktop, right click anywhere on the desktop and select organise icons and be sure that the heading 'show desktop icons' is ticked. This will restore your desktop items

Last of all try installing AVG, if you still experience problems with this issue, then please let me know. Im happy to help

well once you find the program in "All Programs" in your start menu can "Create a shortcut" by right clicking the program under the start program and selected create a shortcut or "Pin to the start menu" or If you have a different problem just post another comment. I'm assuming the icon is gone from the desktop? or your homepage. (Are you talking about a website?)
