Question about Acomdata 500GB PureDrive USB eSATA 500 GB Hard Drive

Open Question

My Acomdata 500GB Hard Drive won't start up. The light turns on when i hit the switch and it is blue, but it doesn't have the sound of starting up. My laptop sometime recognizes the that there is a device being attach through usb but the drive doesn't actually show up. Is this a power problem or something else?

My Acomdata 500GB Hard Drive won't start up. When I hit the switch to turn it on the blue light is solid but there is no buzz like usual to indicate that is is starting up; instead there is a faint ticking sound. In addition to that my laptop is unable to recognize the drive only that there is a storage device connected. This recognition is very brief. It will recognize that there is a storage device for a few seconds then disconnect on its own. Needless to say based on other comments I have read, this seems like the drive is about to crash, but is there anyway to fix this or at least preserve the data inside? Please and thank you for your help!

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

You need to do a firmware flash. It worked for me. Here's the link to the fix.

SOURCE: acomdata 320GB drive is not recognized

Hi,

If the light is on it only confirms that you have power, if it doesn't work on other ports or another computer then it's likely the circuitry of either the drive or shell is damaged, take it to a computer store and have the techs swap it into a new shell(about $40). Then have them test it, if it works you're done, if not then it is the circuitry in the drive itself that is damaged and you will need to send it for data recovery if you want the files back.

Send me an update once you have tried this suggestions and let me know how you made out. If you require the help of a pro for the final steps, reply with your country and region and I will locate a reputable facility to assist you further.

SOURCE: flashing red/blue acomdata 1 terrabyte external

Hi,

This generally means you have a hardware failure in the drive or enclosure. The simplest way to test which is to have a hardware tech move the drive into a new enclosure and see if it works.

This will void your warranty if you do it, so, if the drive is under warranty and there are no files you consider valuable on the drive, call the manufacturer for warranty support.

If you value the data more than the drive is worth then take it to your local hardware vendor and ask them to test the hard drive in a new enclosure. Good odds it will work this way but if not you may need the help of a data recovery specialist.

In North America I use Armor-IT, if you are in a different region and the new enclosure fails to garner results, comment back with your region(Country, State, City) and I will supply you with the closest reputable facility.

My external hd blue light just flashes and i dont have access.

Do you connect via USB or firewire? Can you / have you tried another connection method?
Does it sound like the disk is spinning normally, or is it making a heap of clunking noises or not spinning?
The most common problem (assuming it has power, which it obviously does because it has a blue light), is the USB cable. Do you have another that you can try?

External hard drive will not turn on

Try a new enclosure, the case is just that. A hard drive cannot actually repaired. You cant open it and fix it. It's either reliable and functioning or not. Purchase a new enclosure and test the old drive. Data recovery should be the last option..most places charge a down payment on a car, and most of the time ( in my 12 years ) its the cheap enclosure.

Keep me posted.
