Open Question

White powdery residue on furniture and we're breathing it.

Respironics Concentrator DPI is hooked up to my husband's CPAP (Remstar). Our entire Master Suite is covered with a very fine, white residue. The furntiure and machine is dusted during the day and 2 days later a fine white dust or powder is on all the furniture, machine. What are we breathing? He was in the hospital for 4 days and no white residue because the machine was not used. I did that as a test to narrow down the source.

Is this residue normal dust? If not, I'd call the company, the EPA and get help immediately. I have a small machine that makes dust heavy so it falls out of the air and attracts to the machine and area around it. But you don't say the dust is only near the machine. Getting the dust out of the air would be good.

SOURCE: Produces a ton of white dust... Why???

Your V5100N ultrasonic humidifier generates a fine mist by vibrating the water at an exremely high speed. The water doesn't actually evaporate until after the water mist is in the air. As the tiny water droplets evaporate in the air, the calcium and other minerals settle on your floors and furniture.

Humidifiers that evaporate the water in a filter wick, or with heat, do not generate dust because the water evaporates inside the unit and the calcium is trapped inside.

You can avoid the dust problem with your humidifier by using distilled water. Distilled water is available in most stores that sell bottled water in gallons...but be sure to choose "distilled" water, not "purified" water. Try the distilled water in your steam iron also...if you have one. It will last longer.

SOURCE: new dishwasher leaving powder residue on dishes.

the problem is hard water and there is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system. it actually filters the water going into your dishwasher and leaves your dishes spot free. after the first load i was amazed that the white film was gone and my dishes were sparkling. you can get it at www.dishwasherfilter.com.

If this is on a CPAP machine, I would not attempt to adjust this myself! The dealer where you got this from would be able to adjust this if it is needed.

Just so you know there is a recall on this and may end up with a new one... read below
Respironics, the manufacturer of the Respironics REMstar Heated Humidifier, has received complaints of failures of the AC inlet connector on the REMstar Heated Humidifiers manufactured between December 2001 and April 2003. A small number of these failures have resulted in thermal damage to the humidifier enclosure, and there is a remote possibility that a thermal failure could result in the ignition of materials external to the device. For this reason, Respironics is asking that you remove the humidifier from its power source. You may continue using your CPAP device.

Respironics has decided to take voluntary action to mitigate the risk of failure. This action includes only the model 1005792, U1005792, R1005792, SC1005792, AC1005792, and 1007861.
This voluntary action is classified as a medical device recall, and is being conducted with the knowledge of the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

WHAT TO DO:
Call Stericycle, Inc at 877-574-5038 or 317-275-7667.

The other end of the elbow will not fit into the tubing. Do I need to take the plastic piece off?

There should be a clear plastic end on the mask tubing. This fits inside of the white rubbery tubing that fits onto the machine. It is a tight fit the first time or two you put it on.Try sliding it in one side at a time.

How do you know which CPAP snoring masks are best for you?

FOR ME I HAD TO HAVE A SLEEP STUDY DONE. IT IS A 2 DAY PROCESS. THEY HOOK UP ALL SORTS OF PROBS ON YOU AND MONITOR YOUR BREATHING. THE TEST WILL SHOW HOW MANY TIMES YOU STOP BREATHING. THEN YOU GO IN ON ANOTHER DAY AND THEY TRY DIFFERENT MASK DURING THE STUDY. ONCE YOU GET ACCUSTOM TO IT THEY MONITOR YOUR SLEEP AGAIN. THIS TIME, IF IT WORKS, YOU SLEEP THE REST OF THE NIGHT. FOR ME IT WAS WORTH IT.

Machine turns off

There are thermal overloads which protect devices. When it shuts down it cools down and will start up again. Check your inlet filter if you have lost your manual here is the on line version http://respironicsremstars.respironics.com/PDF/REMstarPlusUserManual.pdf

I have a REMstar pro CPAP machine that is making a high pitch chirping noise, very obnoxious. It's not the mask, hose or chamber. It seems to be coming from inside the unit itself. M

This will happen when a large, continuous air leak has beendetected in the circuit. Check the circuit connection for any leak. Youalso need to check the tubing. If it disconnected, then reconnect the tubingand press the Pressure on / off button to restart the airflow. If the airflowdoes not restart, the REMstar Pro may not be operating correctly. You need tocontact with tech person. Hope this will help you. Good Luck.
