The floor is a plywood wood floor covered with vinyl tile. Is it possible the floor has become warped? It has been set at this location for about 7 months as we bought this washer in August 07. I have also pulled it out far enough from it usual location in an attempt to see if the floor was the cause and it made no difference.

i have the same problem on concrete floor in my basement. The machine is perfectly horizontal and it slowly starts to get out util it shakes, wobles and moves from its initial position

Well, I have learned once again: If nothing helps read the Installation Instructions! :)

It turns out that when I pulled the yellow plastic piece which was holding the power cord and retuned it back, I forgot to completely pull out the metal PIN (approx. 6-7 inches long) that was attached to the plastic. This yellow plastic needs to be completely removed together with a metal PIN attached to it. You will need to pull it quite hard to do so.

The metal PIN is there just to keep together machine parts during the transportation and is not needed for regular machine use.

Once I removed the PIN and yellow plastic piece, the machine works flawlessly, doesn’t shake at all and it is very quiet.

if your machine is a top load , less than 15 yrs. You most likely need a new lid switch. The machine will not drain or spin if the top lid is open.

Kenmore 700 series top load washer problem

This machine has self adjusting legs in the rear. Tilt the machine forward and see if you can hear the spring loaded legs adjust in the back if not they may need some lubrication and some help. tap on legs with hammer gently and they will usually release. Front legs have screw adjustments and very important locking nut which 99 out of 100 installers wont use. Thank you

Excessive vibration in spin cycle

Be sure the washer is on a solid surface, no plywood or skid platforms. Then be sure to lock in the front levelling legs.

Kenmore series 80 washer makes loud knocking noise during spin cy

Unless your front loader is set firmly on concrete and leveled to perfection, the force of a heavy wash load spinning in excess of 1000rpm will create a bit of vibration and noise.A firm footing is your best defense against to much movement.
Also due to the earlier movements during the spin cycle, the shocks that are used to dampen the spin cycle might have been broken or damaged.
If the problem persists inspite of proper levelling, please do check for the shocks or might have them replaced them for good.

Washplate problem Kenmore Elite Calypso washer

Hello genny2626
Welcome,

You said, your 6 year old Kenmore elite top loader's wash plate doesn't seem to go through its proper motions. When the lid is closed and the washer has filled and the agitating cycle begins, you can hear a vibrating noise as if the plate is trying to move on the gentle cycle, but when the lid is opened, nothing has moved at all. The drain and spin work fine, and the machine goes through an entire cycle without error messages, but the clothes aren't clean. You said, you have heard a lot of horror stories of how expensive these washers are to repair, so would like an idea of what's wrong beforehand.

Here are a list of common vibration noises

Noisy, vibrating, off-balance

Is the washer level? Does the washer rock when pushed
against the corners?
The washer must be level. The front and rear feet must be in
firm contact with the floor. Check that the locknuts are
tightened. See “Level the Washer.”
Is the floor flexing, sagging or not level?
Flooring that flexes or is uneven can contribute to noise and
vibration of the washer. A ³⁄₄" (1.9 cm) piece of plywood under
the washer will reduce the sounds. See “Location
Requirements.”
 Is the load balanced?
Evenly distribute the load in the washer basket and make
sure the height of the load does not exceed the top row of
basket holes. See “Starting Your Washer.”
Do you hear clicking or other noises when the cycle
changes from washing to draining or spinning?
When the drive system shifts or the washer basket settles
between cycles you may hear noises that are different from
your previous washer. These are normal washer noises.
Is the washer gurgling or humming?

Is the washer level? The wash load
should be balanced and not overloaded. The washer must be
level. The front feet should be properly installed and the nuts
tightened. Reset the rear leveling legs (if needed). See the
Installation Instructions.
Did you completely remove the yellow shipping strap with
cotter pins? See the Installation Instructions.
• Are the gears engaging after the drain and before spin, or
is the upper part of agitator clicking during wash? These
are normal washer noises.

Let me know if any of these are the solution!
Huuum
