Thanks for the suggestion; however, I'm a pretty low tech guy. Can you break it down for me? I don't have a meter or anything like that--only hand tools. Thanks very much for you help--Grant

here is a guide for a start, may not be like the one you have,

but maybe applicable flyback , only if it is CRT type

b ) Service Manual could be of much help to you if you can

possibly have one, only with a fee.

c ) if there is no light indicator, or something is blinking in your front

panel of the TV it indicates a bad power supply.

d ) if the unit doesn't light at all, assuming the outlet is good,

then most probably the fuse might have been busted.

e ) if the fuse is busted , status is blackened inside, it is not advisable

to just replaced the said fuse, you might have other trouble , causing

it to fail.

f ) it might be a bad horizontal output transistor, have someone to

help you , look for it and properly check.ed.

g ) there might be other causes if your TV status light is blinking.

Here are your initial check list

h ) Confirm that the voltage of more than 23.0 VDC appears between
TP85 and ground on the A Board.

i ) Confirm the voltage of A Board TP91 is 134.6 ± 1.0 VDC

j ) Check Q502 ( 2SD2645 ) is not shorted

k ) post the number of blinks the TV

you are having and will try to update for more possible causes.

Let me know, if you needed further assistance.

Thank you for choosing FixYa for assistance. I hope that my

information proves useful to you. If so, please take a moment

    Blinks 7 times

    Horizontal Deflection Stopped

    a ) a +B overcurrent is detected ( IC5007 )

    b ) overheating is detected ( Thermistor TH5002 )

c ) check these circuits ( might be shorted )

these might look like the TV you are having

You will notice that there are yellow and pink circles.

a ) Your target mission ( troubleshooting ) is the yellow circle

b ) Pink circle will just be for checking if your troubleshooting and repair is OK.

( see sample guide on flyback , )

Here is your flowchart to follow:

It would be best to have a service manual, one like these @

if you cant view properly the details on the image , or aid you in further diagnosis

There are colorful guide and pictures that I'm sure you will appreciate and be safe.

    I wish I could tell

you there was a quick fix or button to push that would fix

the TV but that is not the case or the solution needed to get

    the TV operating correctly.

those are just possible causes ,

There could be many reasons. But, more Often, it would be

on the Circuits Board. You need to Open the TV, unplug the

wires from Circuits Board, pull it out and check it.

More often, you would find either a Loose Solder

connection or Leaked / Bulged / Swelled capacitor, shorted transistor,

    open/burnt resistor ( no resistance ) or a changed-value .. You

need to note down the part number and you could order it

online or go to your Local Electronics shop and

purchase it. Once you solder it, it would be all set.

    Determine the symptoms; identify the cause of the symptoms;

repair the unit to eliminate the cause

Don't forget to check the circuit above, without those working , follow the flowchart.

Let me know, if you needed further assistance.

thank you for choosing Fixya for assistance!

Please count red standby light flash as there would be 3 seconds pause between flashes and let me know to diagnose problem.
Like red light blinks 4 times, pause of three seconds, again 4 times blinka etc.

Sony Trinitron Color TV KV-35V65 - No Picture, red light stand/by timer flashing

A reset won't fix this. The standby light should be blinking a repeated count with a 3 second pause inbetween. Post that count here. That will indicate the circuit/condition that is preventing the set from turning on.

Tv flashing stand by / timer

Sony tv's have a myriad of problems that prohibit the High Voltage from activating. The flashing red light indicates the standby circuits are functioning correctly. You problem lies in the H>V section.A shorted horizontal output transistor or even poor connections on the horizontal drive transformer could cause this problem. To properly diagonose this problem,it must go to a service facility that is familiar with Sony servicing. Usually Sony repairs are not cheap. It is imperative that only Sony original parts are used.
