2002 Kenmore top load washer Model no.110.23902200 My washer goes through the cycle but turns slowly. I removed agitator and there's nothing stuck inside and im wondering if its a worn coupling. I have it on fast speed and it still goes at a stop and go speed, very slow.

Disconnect power first 5. Motor coupling. 6. Motor replacement. The motor to transmission coupling replacement is a common repair on this style washer. Start by removing the cabinet. Remove the pump from the motor shaft, this is not needed if just replacing the motor coupler. You may be able to shift the motor & pump off to one side. If you are replacing the motor = the pump must come off. It is not necessary to take the hoses loose. Tie the pump out of the way after getting it off the motor shaft, if needed. Unplug the motor wire harness. Picture. Unscrew the two 5/16 sheet metal screw holding the mounting clamps to the motor. Release the thumb clamps and take motor loose from transmission. You have reached the point where you can replace the three pieces of the motor coupling. Picture. Picture. Picture. Look at the old pieces to see how to assemble the new, Here is a picture pointing them out. Picture Place either of the two new white couplings on the transmission shaft with the teeth facing toward the motor. Use an 1/2"socket as a press, place it over the center of the coupling and lightly tap it onto the shaft, taking care not to damage the three little prongs. Place the black rubber union over the prongs on the coupling you just installed. Now, tap the other coupling onto the rear shaft of the motor, prongs facing back toward transmission. The motor can now be re-installed, take care to line up the three prongs with the remaining holes in the union. This can be helped by rotating the motor shaft slightly while holding it up to the coupling. Also, remember that the four rubber caps on the motor mount must match up with the four indents on the frame. Once the coupling is engaged, apply the clips & screws to the motor. Hook up the wires, install the pump and you're finished. Hook thumb clamps, replace the two screws. Put pump back on motor shaft and hook thumb clamps. Replace the cabinet and check your repair.

Our washing machine is spinning but not agitating. Do I have a problem with the motor coupling?

Yes it can be motor coupling problem or motor related problem. Both the motor coupling and motor itself needs to be checked. Motor coupler it's plastic and rubber and is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. If this happens, you need to completely replace it. Drive motor Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor. But if both the motor coupling and motor checks out ok then the transmission and agitator assembly itself needs to be checked. You can get required parts from www.repairclinic.com

Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

How do you seperate the motor from the agitator to replace the agitator bushing?

Hi, If you mean how do you replace a bad coupling. Here are the directions for a bad coupling. Kenmore's, Whirlpool's and Ropers are direct drive machines this means they don't have a belt. Instead the transmission is connected directly to the motor via a coupling. This is what a coupling looks like:
a8ee26c.jpg To confirm this pull the machine forward enough that you can lean it back and it will stand back under it's own weight. Wedge something underneath the chassis so it does not fall on you while your accessing the bottom. Go under the Machine and locate the motor, You will see the pump connected to the motor connected to the transmission. 1. Unplug the wire harness from the motor then. 2. Use a screw driver remove the 2 clips holding the pump in place and remove or push the pump out of the way. 3. You will need to remove the 2 screws from the brackets holding the Motor in place with a nut driver. 4. With a screwdriver remove the 2 clips holding the motor in place (be careful to support the motor as the clips comes off) 5. remove the motor and drop it onto the floor. Now you will see the coupling..one side on the motor the other side on the transmission the rubber connector in between. Replace the coupling if broken or worn and reassemble the washer in reverse order. Now you should be all set. Be aware you may smell rubber on the first couple loads this is normal after replacing a coupling.
If you have any other questions please feel free to comment. Mike

Washer does not spin even though water fill and drain properly. Water level presure swith working properly. How do you cehck the capacitor and the motor to make there is power get to each part. Washer is a...

OK,
This could be something not related to the electronics. The motor has a coupling that connects the output shaft to the transmission. If you can, check below the washing machine using a flashlight. If there is black rubber dust below the machine, that bushing needs to be replaced. It is worn out...The part is about $20 to $25 depending on where you purchase it.

To replace the coupling, drain the washer, then unplug the power. Tilt it back, then remove the motor to inspect the coupling. You can easily replace the coupling by removing the motor. There are two metal retainers that can easily be snapped loose using a large screwdriver. Pull the motor away from the transmission housing, then remove the existing coupling and install the new coupling.

Once it is in place, clip the motor back in place, tilt the washing machine back down, plug it back in, and VOILA! You are in business!

Good luck!

Kenmore 90 series washer w broken belt

Hello I'm afraid you didnt find a belt but maybe a piece of the coupling. Here are detailed instructions on replacing a coupling: from the limited information this sounds like it's going to be a broken coupling. Kenmores are usually direct drive machines made by whirlpool, this means they don't have a belt. Instead the transmission is connected directly to the motor via a coupling. This is what a coupling looks like: 0c6b869.jpg To confirm this pull the machine forward enough that you can lean it back and it will stand back under it's own weight. Replace the coupling if broken or worn and reassemble the washer in reverse order. Now you should be all set. Replace coupler on kenmore top loader would like diagram

Go to searspartsdirect.com. You will have to put in the model number to do a search. The search will produce an exploded view along with the parts list and prices. If you're wanting to replace the coupling; the easiest approach is to lay the washer face down. Remove the motor mounts and replace the coupling. The couplings are plastic and fit tightly to both shafts. Pry coupling loose from motor and washer with a screwdriver. Install one of the coupling halves on each shaft. Sit the rubber center section on to the motor half of the coupling and install motor and motor mounts.

Washing machine - Need to replace motor cupling on the kenmore 90 series

you have to access the coupling by removing the housing of the machine,

you can tilt it a little bit to the back so that the motor is in your front.
remove the water pump clamps so that you can remove the pump.

unscrew the screws holding the clamps of the motor.( hold the motor tight, it is heavy)
remove the clamps, the motor will fell..

remove the motor and you can see that the coupling is attached to its shaft.

one coupling goes to the shaft of the motor, the other coupling goes to gear box shafting, and the rubber ring is in between the two coupling.

normally, only one coupling is damaged and you can just replace that coupling. you have the other two parts as spare.

i hope this would solve your problem.

tnx 4using fixya,
