Question about HP Bestec ATX-1956D 200w HP Part No 0950-4106 (ATX1956D) Power Supply

1 Answer

My PSU model ATX-1956d is sick! Any natural remedies out there?

Hi: If anyone can be of assistance, i'd more than appreciate it. This power supply i have is rattling and making vibrating noises. Started just shortly after i went in and cleaned the other fans and vacuumed dust out of tower. Is it time to replace PSU or what else could it be? I have read on boards that Bestec sucks! Should i be going with something else and what else would fit? Not sure of my computer model since i bought it at an auction and has no model # on it and not sure where to find it? Your help is appreciated.
Thanks, vwrobb

Hey Vrob,

Power supply fans rattle and vibrate when the fan bearing is worn out. They rattle even louder and harder when cool or cold, and quieten a little after warming up and expanding. I would get it out and seek a new one like it. From what you are saying, the computer is not a brand name, so it's probably a clown using standard power supply. take it out to the computer shop; they'll get you a new one. Fans can be changed but fan out is fan old is the rule.

Good luck

The power supply is very inexpensive and can most likely be bought from any of your computer retailers, Amazon - Just make sure to confirm the right model type of power supply. BEST to have it tested before replacing it. To make sure that is the issue.. Many computer shops will test for free.

Most computer testing facilities will test your current power supply for free. A replacement is very inexpensive to replace. Bestbuy, MicroCenter, small computer shops and buy replacemnent from Amazon.com, newegg.com.. Just make sure you have the correct information for your replacement. The model number on the power supply would be your best bet in most cases. Good luck and have a great day. I buy power supplies as low as $15 dollars Generic

What is the p7 connector on a atx-1956-d for? the upgraded power supply has no provision for this connector? help please!!!!!!!!! gjohannsen@verizon.net

This is not a problem, and as it sounds, is not used in your system.

Some video cards have such huge processing power that they need thier own supply, as it would draw too much current from the motherboard otherwise. Below is a web site which reinforces this information, and gives an explanation of each connector.

Or do I not understand you. Do you have one less, or one too many?

Upgrade for Bestec ATX-1956D (HP p/n: 0950-4106)

How about the LC Power LC350M Micro ATX - 380 Watt

or the

Logisys 350W Micro ATX

They should fit your form factor and output as much as 350W being relatively cheap, but neither gets 18 amps on 12V rail...
I think no power supply of that size has an output like that...think about a cheap but substancial chassis upgrade if you need that power...Have a look at directron for the PSUs.
