Generally speaking the answer is no -- even within the same model year, manufacturers will update firmware revisions multiple times, and they aren't always backwards compatible.
That said, you did say "I have purchased" so you have nothing to lose by trying. Charge up the replacement handset using the base station (not an axillary charger) and if it is compatible, then it should synchronize with the base station's radio.
