Hotrodmax- If the speakers work on the tv itself, then maybe check the back where the units hook-ups are there may be a speaker switch. If you don't find one there is a good chance you have to go into the menu and change your audio setup,my 52inch runs audio this way. cooltekFeb18/08

What can be connected to te audio output jacks on the back of this set?

You didn't include make and model TV; so only generalized answers are possible.

Typical RCA phono jacks like those shown in the blue box of the stereo amplifier below:

25998201-ac5bgneb45fvu53muoueauti-3-0.jpg will accept cables to connect to other audio devices. The audio RCA jacks are color coded RED (right) and WHITE (left) for low level stereo signals. Some have YELLOW jacks for Standard Definition video, ORANGE jacks for AC3 Digital audio and newer amps have HDMI jacks.

Connect the TV's audio OUTPUT jacks and a stereo pair of unused audio INPUT jacks on the amplifier with cables that have ends that match each. Turn on the stereo & TV and select the input on the amplifier that matches the stereo pair of inputs you used to connect to the TV. Adjust the volume to hear the audio over your stereo system's speakers.

Use the HDMI or AC3 sources for superior audio - including 5.1 (or better) Dobly Digital when possible. Otherwise, a standard 2 channel stereo program will be heard.

I hope this helps & good luck!

I have an older home stereo system that i would like to connect to my vizio tv. I have a 3.5mm audio to rca plug. Coming out of the headphone jack on the tv, it plays no sound out of the system. Although...

I suspect what you're wanting to do is take the audio output from the TV and run it through your stereo system to leverage the large speakers. Correct?

I suggest using the RCA audio jacks (red and white pair) on the back of the TV. Most TV's still have these. Some are tied to a specific component, and some are general for all sound coming out of the TV. You connect this to the input RCA jacks on your stereo system.

The headphone jack on the TV could also work, but I suspect it may have a low level output. I don't understand how you say your MP3 player plays fine through the headphone jack, as that's an output, not an input. Unless there's some other jack?

NEED INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOOKING UP WIRELESS HEADPHONES FOR VIZIO TV

From the manual:

1. Plug the stereo audio cable into the headphone jack of your audio
source (e.g., stereo, TV, CD player, DVD, etc.). If your audio source
has two RCA output jacks instead of a headphone jack, use the
supplied Y cable to connect your headphones to the two (red and
white) RCA jacks.
2. Connect the other end of the stereo audio cable to the AUDIO IN
socket at the back of the recharging cradle/transmitter.
3. Connect the AC/DC main power adapter to the DC IN power
supply socket at the back of the recharging cradle/transmitter. Then,
connect the adapter to an electrical outlet.
Important: This power unit is intended to be correctly oriented in a
vertical or floor mount position.

" Some DVD\'s sound fine whilst others have background sounds but no voices. I do have an old model TV that has mono sound.Would that cause it? "
Hi,
I wrote a short article for someone who had a similar problem a few days ago.
I will edit it for you so that it fits. Here it is.
Your DVD player should have output connectors in the back of it to plug your amplifier or receiver into. If you have a Stereo system (no surround sound speakers, or front center speaker) connect the DVD Audio Cables on the back of the DVD player to the STEREO (or MIXED ) Output Jacks. If it is connected to the Left Front and Right Front jacks of the "Surround Sound" output jacks instead of Stereo(or MIXED) then the dialog will be sent to the CENTER channel output. If you have no center channel speaker you will not hear it. Thus no dialog.
NOTE: In your case for the TV that is mono, here is the solution.
1 Connect a stereo pair of RCA cables (red and white "male" connectors at each end) to the Mixed or Stereo Output of the DVD player (NOT ANY SURROUND OUTPUTS).
2 Purchase an RCA type "Y" connector that has 2 female to a single male connectors on it. Walmart about 3 dollars.
3 Plug the single male plug of the Y connector into the back of the TV set's single mono audio input.
4 Connect the stereo RCA pair from the MIXED output of the DVD player into the Y connector that is now on the back of yourTV.
5 Run your yellow Video output from the DVD into the Back of the Set's yellow input.
That should do it. The sound should be clear and correct with dialog, effects and music.
Hope this helps,
Best,
Mark

I nedd to play my computer on this tv i need help

This being a CRT style projection set is not really designed to work with a computer/laptop.
If your computer has a composite video output, it should be able to work. This is a analog video output and would be a RCA connector. Most computers have a audio output and most of the time it is a stereo mini jack. So if you have a RCA video jack output on your computer you can hook it to the yellow video in of video1. If you have a stereo mini jack cable that has 2 RCA connectors at the other end, you would plug the mini jack in the audio out of the computer and plug the RCA Jacks into the red and white connectors of video1. Some computers will have a key you will need to press to activate the video output instead of the monitor output.
I hope this is clear enough.

Im trying to find an audio output for my tv or a headphone jack but with so many things on the tv i cant find it.. help

There should be two RCA jacks on the back for left and right audio outputs, white and red respectively, if it has stereo out. Connect these outputs to a stereo receiver or amplifier into an auxiliary port or TV audio input via a red and white RCA cable.

Is it possible to connect my Altec ACS48 speaker system to my TV?

If your TV has audio output jacks, then yes, you can connect your speaker system to the TV. Run a stereo RCA cable from those output jacks to the audio input jack on the Altec system, using whatever adapter required. You will probably need to convert from RCA jacks to a 1/8-inch stereo plug for the speaker input. Or you can pick up a cable from Radio Shack that has the RCA plugs on one end and the stereo plug on the other, and omit the adapter.

If the TV doesn't have audio output jacks, there isn't any easy way to hook up the Altec.

Please take a moment to rate this solution if it has helped you. Thanks for asking here!

CONNECTING MY TV TO MY STEREO

Make sure the output in your tv menu is set to external speakers. Any digital optical cable, or RCA jacks hooked up properly from the TV's out put to the receivers input should work just fine. Take your time, retrace your steps, and make sure each cable is in the correct input/output. And make sure the receiver and TV are on the proper settings. Good Luck, and thanks for using FixYa!

Volume control doesn't work on the enternal speaker

On some sets that have audio output jacks, the level of the audio output on the RCA jacks is fixed, and it does not change with the TV's volume control. On some sets, such as Sony, you can choose fixed or variable output. I have also seen some sets that have both fixed and variable RCA jacks on the back. With variable audio out, the audio level at the audio output jacks follows the TV's volume control. If you go into the TV's menu and navigate to the audio page, look for fixed or variable output options. If you have the owner's manual, read the section on audio output. If variable output is not an option on your model, then the level is constant and the volume will have to be adjusted with the stereo's volume control.
