If it is flashing randomly that is normal. If it is flashing rapidly you have an outside interference maybe a remote with the switch stuck on. If it is a solid light you have a bad logic board.

Liftmaster Garage Door Opener won't clear codes

This was a first generation learn button model. Antiquated by current technology standards. It was a two channel system. One channel for a dip switch remote, the second for a 66LM key pad. No way to erase the programming, however, by programming in a dip switch remote (61LM with the dip switches set to new positions, and a 66lm set to a new entry code) will purge the two channels of their previous memory, now set to the the new settings.

My external mounted pad lights up, but won't accept the new code after erasing all existing codes. the drive unit lights, the light bulb works, the led turns on and flashes, but the new code will not...

Make sure you are doing it like this.

Locate the smart/learn button on the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go. Press and immediately release this and then walk over to the keypad and key in any 4 digit code you like and press enter.

Hi,
try this if you need the manual let me know. (PLEASE rate if it was helpful)
If you are programming the remote for a brand/model that is
not listed in the Popular Brand List or the Direct Code Entry
(e.g. Wharfedale, Acoustic Solutions etc), it is recommended
that you use the Learning Mode (go to section 4).
Follow the steps below to program your remote using the
learning function.
1. Press and hold the device key you wish to learn for 3 secs.
The LED turns ON when the key is pressed but turns OFF
after 3 secs indicating that the key can be released.
2. Release the Device key, LED turns back ON.
3. Press and release the RECORD key, the LED turns off
when the key is pressed and turns on after release, the
remote is now in the learning mode.
4. Press and release the key on the RC050 that you want to
learn to, the LED will blink once and then remain ON with a
lower brightness to indicate it is ready to learn.
5. Face the head of RC050 to the head of your original
remote control, leaving a gap of 5cm (2”).
6. Now press and hold the original remote key (the teaching
key), do not release this key until the LED on the RC050
this indicates an error. Repeat steps 4-6 to correct the
error.
7. LED remains on, repeat steps 4-6 for other key functions to
be learned.
8. Press and release EXIT key to exit learning mode at any
time, the LED turns off.
9. If no keys are pressed for more than 15 secs while in
this mode, the remote exits the mode and the LED turns
OFF
good luck

  4. ALTERNATE slowly between the POWER key and the DEVICE (TV, VCR, CABLE, etc.) button until your device turns off. (On VCR, LD, and CD players use PLAY instead of POWER)
Make sure that the remote is pointed at your device during the search, You may have to press this sequences of buttons up to 100 times to search the entire library of codes.
  5. When your device turns OFF, PRESS the SETUP button and RELEASE it to lock in the code for your device.
