Question about Canon Office Equipment & Supplies
I have recently installed MP Navigator in order to scan wirelessly as well as access my SD memory card. I can print just fine wirelessly, as well as save to my PC with a USB cord, however when I try to use Navigator wirelessly I get an error that reads:
Cannot communicate with scanner for these reasons:
Scanner is turned off
Scanner is disconnected
(It is disconnected from LAN, if using LAN.)
Please check and try again.
Scanner driver will be closed
I'm not sure if this is normal but in my ''Printers & Scanners'' window my printer is listed twice, but with different names:
The first represents the USB connection and is defaultly named ''Canon MP640 series printer'' while the second is for wireless and is defaultly named ''Canon MP640 series printer WS.''
The reason I know that these two different icons represent the two different connection methods is because before I activated the wireless printing the one labeled ''Canon MP640 series printer'' was listed by its self and no wireless capability was possible. Then after turning on wireless capability on the printer and after shutting it down and turning it back on I went into my network folder (without USB cable connected) and there was an icon for my canon printer. I right-clicked and selected install. That is when the second or ''Canon MP640 series printer WS'' came up.
Anyway, I have a feeling that the Navigator program is only accessing the USB printer driver and not the wireless one because I have functionality of the MP Navigator using the USB cable but none when I try to scan wirelessly. I can also print wirelessly so I know the wireless driver is working properly and that my usbscan.sys in my system as well.
I am operating with a Vista OS.
Whatever help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
The problem I think is happening is that the Navigator program is trying to access the USB printer instead of the wireless one
Your anti virus software is blocking the Canon software. Restore AV default settings.

The problem is, that you installed your Device for the use with USB.
- Uninstalll all drivers
- connect MP640 via wifi to router (should still be connected)
- install MP640 in accordance with handbook for use with wifi. That ist step 10 in the installation process (For MP560, yours should be similar).
Now it should work without any problems.

You can scan documents using the operation panel.
Do not disconnect or connect the USB cable while the machine is in use.
In Windows XP, the program selection dialog box may open when you press the Color Start or Black Start button on the machine for the first time. In that case, select MP Navigator EX, then select Always use this program for this action and click 'OK'. From the next time, MP Navigator EX will start automatically regardless of the selected scan mode.
Selecting a Response to Commands from the Operation Panel
1. Place the document face-down on the platen.
2. Press the Scan button on the machine.
The machine enters Scan Mode.
3. Press the Color Start or Black Start button on the machine.
MP Navigator EX starts on the connected computer. Scan documents on the platen or ADF (Auto Document Feeder) using MP Navigator EX.
Trust this is helpful.

1. Install the MP Navigator EX software located on the disc that came with the printer.
2. Go to Start > Programs > Canon Utilities > MP Navigator EX > MP Navigator EX.
3. Select Photos/Documents or Stack of Documents.
4. If Photos/Documents was selected, open the top of the scanner and place the document you wish to scan on the glass with the top facing to the left. If Stack of Documents was selected, flip the plastic tray open on the top of the printer and place the stack of papers in the tray.
5. Select the Document Type in the left pane, then click the Scan button.
