Is the air filter dirty? With the bowl as the lowest part of the fuel system, any dirt or water will wind up here. Turn off the fuel valve, or drain the gas tank, then place a rag under the bowl to catch the gas that will run out. Loosen the "nut" that holds the bowl on, and after the gas has stopped draining remove the nut and bowl, but do not let the float swing all the way down! Wipe out the bowl. The "nut" usually contains 1 or 2 very small passages, soak in (or spray with) carb cleaner and use a wire bread-tie or other soft wire to poke out the holes. Blow out with compressed air, if available. Put the bowl back on and try to start it. If it still will not start, it needs a good soaking and a rebuild kit. Honda gx160 5.5 hp getting too hot

On most of these engines since they are air cooled you need to have all of the metal shielding that came with the engine on it. These help direct the flow of air from the flywheel fins to cool the engine. You may have to remove the metal shields and clean the fins if you have an older motor that has been run in really dirty areas. If air can't flow between the fins it can't cool. I will mention oil level just because oil also helps cool the engine how ever most of these engines will not run if the oil is low due to an oil pressure switch that prevents it from running if the oil level is too low.

Honda gx160 will not run on idle

There are a few things i can think of that would cause that problem. #1 clean out the carb, some times when an engine sits for a little while the gas will gum up in the carb. #2 check the tuning on the carb, It is possible that the idle screw needs a bit of adjustment. #3 The gas could have gone bad. Again if it sits for a while and the gas cap doesn't seal properly your gas will go bad in a hurry.
Hope this helps.

Honda gx160 qh26 wont start, backfires thorugh exhst, new plug, re&re carb, valves in. .006 ex. .008 , sos please

The Honda GX160 is a single-cylinder multipurpose engine, so it doesn't have a timing belt, fuel filter, or any other wires other than the single spark plug wire and a ground. I'm having the same trouble with my Honda GX160. Spark is good, compression feels a bit lacking though, I haven't measured it. I've heard that the carburetor might be the cause, either needing to be cleaned or replaced as a whole. Dunking it in CLR works wonders, and if that doesn't work, you could probably find a new carburetor pretty cheaply.

Honda GX160 firepump runs good than dies starts first pull after and repeats

Check that the fuel tank is venting properly, sounds as though the tank is not venting therefore creating a vacuum that the carburetor cannot over come. Try running the engine with the fuel cap loose to see if that alows the engine to continue to run.

Honda 5.5 hp air comp. no spark wont run

Most honda engines have an oil sensor that prevents the engine from starting if the oil level is low or oil is dirty. Test coil by disconnecting oil sensor wire. With sensor disconnected coil should fire. If still no fire, check kill wire for short. If still no spark, coil may need to be replaced. enjoy
