Question about McCulloch 4 Ton Electric Log Splitter # FB4052

1 Answer

Splitter (2 years old) motor won't shut off.

Splitter (2 years old) was squealing under load in the last few days. Now the motor/pump does not shut off regardless of the log pusher activator handle position. The log pusher retracts when the handle is raised, but the motor/pump keeps running. I am fairly handy with machines and have all the tools. Can I fix this myself? Do I need any parts?

My machine is a McCulloch 4-ton electric log splitter #FB4052. I will re-check the oil level now. I'll have to bring the splitter inside to check the solenoid, In the stop position, the log pusher retracts, but the motor keeps running. More soon.... Thanks!

    Hi again,

I found the problem to be a stuck power button. This spring-loaded button covered with a plastic cap and nut was problematic before. I disassembled the power supply and fixed the button by shaving some of the plastic from the sides. Now it depresses and releases freely.

First of all, I hate to, but have to ask, have you verified oil level is up to proper level? Have you checked power at directional solenoid when handle is moved to different directions, as well as released? Obviously when handle is in stop position, there shouldn't be power to motor in either direction. I can't see exact model, or design obviously, but that would be a good place to start.

The belt has most likely moved either in or out on the bottom pulley. Check it first. I had the same problem it looked ok but was out one groove missleading designed pulley.

Shallow water pump keeps stopping

new pump --not big enough for the job
old pump --motor windings problem, faulty start run capacitor
I suspect that as the motor is 1/2 hp if will run good when there is a need for water but under pressure the pressure switch is set to high so the motor overloads and gets hot

Susan,
Dealing with overseas tech support people can be frustrating. If the laptop is only a few days old, you really need to contact them first.

Im sure its still covered under warranty, so start there first.
If it wont boot, it could be a number of things.
If you get no where with them, please post back and someone here will try to help.

Just bought new pump. My old one lasted for 12 years. New one is 4 months old and recently started to make a loud whine or screeching noise when operating. It works fine but is very loud. I have trouble...

Most likely the bearings on the motor are going out. 4 months is way too soon, but it is possible you got a lemon. Unfortunately I wouldn't expect the new one to last 12 years. It's possible but unlikely. You should however get at least a few years. If the shaft seal on the motor shaft between the impeller and seal plate failed then water can drip back along shaft and get into motor bearings. This will cause motor bearings to fail. Even if this is not the case the motor bearings can fail even though it is rare to do so within first year. I would contact the place you bought the pump from, or whoever installed it. It should have at least a one year warranty. If for whatever reason this motor is not covered under warranty and you have to replace it, I would consider rebuilding it. Normally I don't care for rebuilds, but if the motor is truly only 4 months old then rebuilding it would be a good option.

Service light is not fixable by the consumer
you will need to call intex
they will e-mail you a form fill it out and fax it back to them
you will have a new pump in a few days to your door
it must be under 2 years old and you must have a valid receipt

Frigidaire GLTF2940FS...does not do a final spin/clothes wet

If water remains in the drum the unit will not go into the final spin. There may be a couple of reasons for your problem.
1.) A coin or other foreign object is blocking the drain hose. Check the drain hose for foreign objects impeding the exit of the water.
2.) The Drain hose is not raised above the machine outlet to create a siphon effect. See your manual for proper hose positioning.
3.) The pump is a third possibility which you should hear the impeller spinning during the drain cycle. There is a coin catch after the diaphragm of the pump that looks like a rubber boot that should be inspected for objects if you remove the pump. I believe the pump is about $60.00 and is accessible after removing the front panel under the door.

We have had the same problem and upon removing the main circulation pump, I found that the housing had come apart and had to order a new pump and install it. But the problem did stop there. The pump that discharges the dirty water has two stainless steel ball bearings in it and was worn out. So now I have to replace this pump also..... this needless to say, will be my last fridgidaire dishwasher. The unit is not ever six years old and might be used once a week.
