Scanning document and editing in word

I want to scan an old e-mail to my computer and then be able to edit the contents. How do I do this? It will scan it, but not allow me to do the editing or else it scans and looks like a foreign language document. Is the HP Photosmart C5180 capable of doing this? If not, what do you suggest short of retyping the whole document?

Hai,

HP Solution center software installed for your printer model has OCR feature to edit the scanned text image, but its not guaranteed.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) programs cannot reproduce a document with 100% accuracy every time. Some manual correction of the page is necessary. The following information might help increase the accuracy of the OCR.

1.You must click Scan Document from the HP Solution Center to begin the scan for the OCR to work.
2.On the Scan Document Button window, select a compatible program in the Scan to drop-down. The perform OCR setting then appears to the right.
3.On the Scan Document button Window, select the Scan Document Settings button.
4.Make sure at least 300 ppi is selected.
5.Remove the setting from Flowed Text in the Scan Settings window. If it is not already selected, select it now. This option will work correctly only in word processing programs capable of accepting this type of output. Microsoft WordPad, for example, will not accept this type of output.
6.Repeat Step 5 with the Retain page formatting setting.

Note: If the above solution didnt work, then you have to buy third party OCR software.

Thanks & Regards
Rizwan

I have a HP Precisionscan Pro 3.14. I want to scan something as an editable file but aren't given that as an option. Is there an update so I can do that?

If you scan any document, it would not be in editable formate. You would need to convert the scan document in to text by OCR software like Nuance, Adobe Writer etc.. and then you might be able to edit the document.

I need to copy a word document however when I scan it, it makes it into a jpg document. What can do I fix this in order to be able to edit and save the scanned document as a word document?

Hello,
Make sure you installed the full software suite for your scanner. Scanners do scan to image files but should come bundled with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software. Select the OCR option in your scanner settings and it will convert your scans to an editable format. Take note, OCR software is only as good as the scan, and the content on the paper, so it might make some mistakes, in which you will have to manually fix in Word etc "proofing"...

You need OCR software installed in your PC

go to www.hp.com then type OCR application then download it in your pc

OCR Application File name: s.gif 23902_hpcom_OCR_120_003.exe [1/1, 54.84M]

Text Cannot Be Edited After It Is Scanned to a Word Processing Program
Issue After scanning into a word-processing program, the text in the original is not editable. Workaround The process of changing text from an image to editable text is called optical character recognition (OCR). Text should automatically be converted in the OCR process when the Send To destination is a word-processing program. If it does not, check the items in the following list:
  • Select Editable Text as the image type in Scan Settings . In Windows XP, this setting is automatically selected if Scan Document is selected in the Director program.
  • Scan at a resolution of at least 300 dots per inch (dpi) for correct OCR conversion. Check the default resolutions in the Scan Settings on the Resolution tab.
  • If portions of the scan are cut off, turn off the Auto Crop feature in the Scan Settings on the Scanning tab by clicking to clear the check mark.
  • Tables, text boxes, and spreadsheets might not be editable. The border around them makes the OCR program read them as images. Readiris OCR, which is included with the HP Officejet G and K series, can recognize these images. Instead of selecting the word-processing program in the Send To list, send the scan to Readiris. Use the Table Drawing tool on the right side of the window to change the type of image to a table, and then use the OCR. The text inside of the box should now be editable.
NOTE: Handwritten messages might not be captured by the OCR process.

I cannot get it to scan a document and allow me to edit information on the document.

To edit information on a scanned document you must use a OCR (Optical character recognition) software. This will make the scanned document into a word file, and thus allowing you to edit it. Most OCR software are expensive unless one was provided with the printer.

Also, if you are scanning in as a PDF, most of the time you will not be able to edit it due to limitations with software. Most computers only have PDF Reader, unless you specifically purchased Adobe Acrobat full version (retail price $300)

How do I use my x5495 to scan a resume and then to edit it with my Dell XP computer?

You'll need to scan the document with an OCR software package (Optical character recognition) that will recognize the letters themselves and transmit them to word processing application, such as Word for Windows. Most scanner packages come with some form of OCR utility, so check your installed software. You may already be set up!
Best of luck, William

I have a hp 1310 AIO Printer how do you scan documents to computer using such programmes as ms word

MS Word cannot open scanned documents to edit. You need to run a scanned document through an OCR program (optical character recognition program) which converts the scanned document into a text document. Then you open Ms Word and import or open this text document to edit or change the text.

How can i edit a scanned document on the lexmark 5650es?

Hi. You will need the OCR software installed in your computer. It is only available in the installation cd that came with your printer. The software is not available for download, even from the Lexmark website. If you have installed the scan software already, just open up the Lexmark Productivity Studio(for Windows) or All-in-One Center (for Macintosh)and choose Scan to Edit or Scan using OCR so that you can edit your scanned document. Hope this helps. Good luck!

How to scan editable text of document.

Put the CD in the computer
Select "Add more Software"
Check if you have any OCR option
If you have one Install it
Then Try to scan from HP Solution center and select Scan Document
You will be able to Scan to Editable text

Other wise you can purchase a Software RED I.R.I.S.
and then you can directly Scan from the software to editable text.
