No problem with stoppages. Worked fine several times yesterday but no propane today. Nothing. New propane bottle (tried two new ones). Actually took the top off the burner and tried direct fllame. No luck.Is there some kind of trip over switch? There is a small part by the regulator that has two connections coming out. Could that be the problem?

Could you e-mail answer to dphillipd@msn.com?

    Thanks

The nib that goes into the gas bottle has a built in filter.  Quite often, it looks like tiny brass beads.  Moisture gets into the filter and causes corrosion.  The heater can work one day and not the next, depending on how much moisture got in.  The weather conditions alone, or the condensation from changing bottles is enough to swell the corrosion to the point of totally stopping the gas flow.  Try soaking it in a tarnish remover like Tarn-X.  It might or might not work.  Another liquid to try would be pure white vinegar.  It will need to be blown out with high pressure air and thoroughly dried INSIDE, before reinstalling it.

Not sure where you are in the world. But where i am we have to use regulators on all propane units. If you have one fitted remove it and do a direct connect. This should eliminate a faulty regulator if propane is getting through now.

Also at the pilot jet, check that it is not blocked by carbon. use a "pricker" to clean the jet.

Thanks for using FIXYA

This is a multiple part answer, is this the first time this year you have tried to use it? And when it was stored did you store it with the tank on it? If Not what might have happened is that there is dirt or possibly some insect has tried to make a nest in the nozzle of the heater, I would try and clean after inspecting it for contamination. I would use a cleaner that dries and if you have compressed air all the better to blow out afterwards. This would be the cheapest way to first try and fix if not then the control assembly would possibly have to be replaced. Also you are sure that the tanks being used do have fuel in them and they are seated fully? When you turn to pilot are you making sure to push in the button to light? Let me know and I will try and help further.

I am not allowed to respond directly, I am thinking that the regulator or the 2 items you mentioned are the problem, I have not been able to find a schematic or owners manual for this unit I am just going by what I learned in school for the possible solution.

Big buddy Heater - 20 lb tanks won't keep pilot lit,

I had the same problem I called tech support and they said to turn the valve on the 20# cylinder on very slowly for the first 1/4 turn then all will be fine. There is an excessive flow check valve that causes restricted flow when the valve is opened quickly----------mine works fine now

Kozy world propane wall heater pilot will not light

This can be caused by several things:

1. The inline gas valve running to the the heater is OFF. Turn the valve ON.

2. The gas control knob on the heater is not exactly in the PILOT position. Unless the knob bottoms
out and you feel strong pressure (other than spring pressure) pushing back at you. It's not exactly
in the PILOT Position. Once the pilot lights, hold the control knob in for 30 seconds to 60 seconds
to allow the Thermocouple to full heat.

3. The pilot is dirty and needs to be cleaned, as do the burners.*

4. The LP Gas Tank is empty or to low to maintain te proper gas pressure.

* Here is a link to a demonstration on how to properly clean the pilot & burners.

I hope this helps you to troubleshoot & solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Lights while holding primer/pilot button then runs out of propane within seconds. If you wait a minute it builds up then does the same thing like the propane tank is empty but it is full.

Turn off the propane tank and disconnect the heater hose from the tank. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the heater hose/regulator to the propane t. Turn the tank valve on very, very slowly until it's completely open again. Now, try lighting the heater. If you are using a 20lb LP grill type tank, that should solve your problem.

Hope that helped.

If you're using a 20lb propane tank (Gas Grill Tank), that may be the problem. Turn off the propane tank at the tank valve and disconnect it from the tank. Wait 5 minutes and reattach the heater hose to the tank. Turn the propane tank valve on very, very slowly until it's all the way open. Try lighting your heater now. If the pilot flame height returned to normal, that was the problem.

FYI - The Thermocouple has nothing to do with the length of the pilot flame. It's a safety feature that stops the gas if the pilot flame goes out for any reason.

Hope that solves your problem. Please let me know.

The new 20lb LPG cylinders now have what called an OPD Valve. Reconnect to a 20lb cylinder and turn the tank valve on very very slowly, This will help prevent the OPD Valve from locking up the heater's regulator. Your 1lb cylinder is not required to have this OPD Valve.

By the way, this happens quite frequently with LP Gas Portable Grills.

Sounds like the thermocouple is not working or you are not keeping the start or pilot button depressed long enough before turning gas valve to on position. Check to see if thermocouple end hasn't come loose, the pilot should be hitting it. This produces the small electrical current necessary to open gas valve. Hope this helps.

Propane heater wont work

I'm not sure about that model, but I think you have to hold that button down for a minute or more to "prime" it.

I have a different model coleman propane heater that sits on the 20# tank. Mine is probably getting rusty, last time I used it I had to hold that button down for a long time.

I'm looking for a new heater now myself, as mine won't stay lit outdoors in much wind.

Endless Summer Patio Heaters won't stay lit

Hi ColdinSF,

You need to remove the covers from the unit and blow out the gas lines with compressed air. If you can remove the gas lines blow out the lines and what they connect to like the pilot light and main feed line to the burner. Usually they gunk up with use and just need to be blown out with compressed air to clear the lines again. Maybe you have some dirt or foreign object from your gas tank which has clogged the line. Also check the igniter electric lines as well and make sure everything is connected properly. Especially make sure you tighten the gas lines you remove. Hope this helps.

Regards
Bryan
