Rainbow e2 2 speed vacuum shuts off after 5 minutes of vacuuming.
Hi. We have a rainbow e2 2 speed vacuum. Recently, our vacuum motor has been turning itself off after about 5 minutes of vacuuming our carpet or rug. The motor will turn back on for a few seconds if we switch the unit off and then back on. The vacuum will stay on for hours in the low speed but not in the vacuum speed. Any suggestions?

Re: rainbow e2 2 speed vacuum shuts off after 5 minutes...
2 speed E2 models have a circuit board inside that controls the machine. It sounds like this controller board may be bad. The unfortunate part of this is that the board is not only very expensive, but it is only available from an authorized Rainbow service center.
Use caution if you decide to work on this yourself or if you take it to a service center that is not famliar with these models. The circuit board mentioned above is susceptible to damage from static eclectricity discharge. The static you generate from just walking across a carpet could make this board useless. So, if the original problem is not the board you could make the problem worse.

You must have a late model 2006 or newer E2 two speed Rainbow vacuum that has the white foam padding in the canister, to dampen the sound of the motor, and has a red light on the computer board.
I hate to tell you, but your computer is most likely the problem, and is out on your E2 two speed vacuum.
The only solution is to get a new computer for it.
It is realy not worth replacing it, because it may also be the motor. The E2 is a very high tec system, and is not like any other vacuum. When you turn it on, you are not turning on the vacuum. You are turning on the computer, which is controling everything.
I could supply you with another canister, if you are interested.
If you have any more questions let me know. I am a Rainbow seller, and a Rainbow expert also.
I used to sell rainbow vacuums and this latest 2 speed model does whine when it is first turned on. So you definately have nothing to worry about. I believe this is due to the fact that this motor is much more powerful than in the previous 1 speed E series model. I finally just purchased a 2 speed model after many many years of wanting one. Good luck to ya and enjoy your clean house!

Also I need instructions to replace power cord; On the E series single speed.
Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. On the Rainbow E Series there really is no actual filter – the water is the filter for this particular vacuum. Before you remove the separator under the motor, place a newspaper or towel under the Rainbow without the water pan under the vacuum and then turn it on for a short period of time and spin the water moisture out of the motor and separator; then some of the maintenance is to remove the separator under the motor and clean that and then replace it. As far as replacing the cord there are screws under the Rainbow that need removal and then you can get to the end of the cord for replacement. The easiest way is to mark your wires and the cord will be much easier to replace otherwise check the owner’s manual for cord replacement or check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or to cal the cust serv @ the Rainbow factory for questions. Being an E series some have a corrgated filter in the top, there is also a filter on the back. Could be a motor problem, not turning as fast as it should, in which case you will have to replace the motor. You might check, some had a 10 year warranty on the motor. If you are the original owner and only have had it 5 years, then it may be covered.
