I have a Vizio 37 inch lcd tv. It works fine from

I have a Vizio 37 inch lcd tv. It works fine from the cable box, but when I try a DVD the picture will fade out to black after about five minutes. The picture comes back if I hit the volume or any button on the cable remote, but will fade out again after a couple of minutes. If I switch back to the cable box, it will then also fade out. I have only been able to stop it if I go through a complete tv set up, but it will do it again if I try a DVD again. Does this have a screen saver or power saver in the set up?

It only does it when I first try to view a dvd. I can correct it by going through a full set up, but will do it again at a later date when I try a dvd again.

Well It depends on what you mean by fade out, Fades out completely or just darkens enough to be annoying? I just bought this exact tv and mine also fades, I changed the preset picture function to "game" mode and the fading stoped.

I'm not sure how electrically inclined that you are, but you need to open up the set and measure the DC voltage on the backlight inverter board to see if you have the 24vdc after the picture goes out, if you do have the 24vdc, then the problem is in the inverter board, if 24vdc is gone then it will be in the power supply which then needs to be replaced. You should be able to find the parts needed at shopjimmy.com

Let me know how this works out for you and remember to be careful as there are many dangerous components in the set when there is power running to it.

There is no easy fix on this tv, the problem is internal and someone with electrical expertise will need to look at it unless you can return the tv and exchange it. I have said exactly what needs to be checked on the tv. The tv screen is lit by a backlight and this backlight is not staying lit and there are two possible parts that can cause this light to not stay lit up.

If you have questions on anything else with this tv, please let me know.

42 inch vizio has picture (direct tv) but no sound. Tv is not on mute.

Did you check the RCA AV Cables? The ones with the red, white yellow?

What is the connection you have from Direct TV box to your TV. You might want to start on that.

It might probably as well related to any of the remote controls settings. Either of the Direct TV control or TV Control.

1. Check the cables
2. Check if there is any function on the Direct TV remote that will turn off the sound
3. CHeck the Vizio TV Menu Settings.
4. Try with other component such as DVD to discard the possibility of malfunctioning VIZIO Speakers.

Vizio offer a good customer service if still under warranty.

God Bless You!!

My Vizio LCD TV screen fades to dark. Sound stays on.

I w having this same issue when watching a Blu-Ray disc. I found it to be dependent upon what picture mode the TV was set to. By this I mean certain picture modes would cause the TV to dim during dark scenes of a movie. Changing the picture mode helped a lot.

Vizio GV42L LCD TV screen black when turn TV on first time

If you are using a set top box this might be caused by turnig the box on at the same tie as you turn the tv on or slightly after you turn the tv on.  If you are using compnent or HDMI inputs the set needs to see the signal as it is turned on to know what formt the signal is in.
