You are most likly unplugging the internet input to your router, when you do this, the wireless portion that feeds your laptop goes down as well, if you want to disconnect from the internet on your desktop, I suggest unpluging it from the back of the PC

Can you be a little more specific. What do you mean by "INTERNET PLUG IN"? Are you referring to the cable connecting your laptop to the router? The router to the modem? Or the modem to the internet (cable or DSL)?

What operating system?

Hi. First issue why your laptop cant connect to your router is regarding witht the password. Make sure that you are typing in the correct password of your router. Check the type of authentication used e.g WPA, WEP etc. Second issue, is this the first time you used windows 7 OS in connecting to your router. There are issues in linkys routers that is not compatible with windows 7 and you need firmware upgrade for your router. You can also try to test the connectivity using a wired conncetion (LAN cable) conncet directly to your router nd se if you were able to get an internet concetion using a wired connection.

Have a good one!

Everytime my wife's iphone connects to our home network, my laptop looses the internet connection and goes to a local connection only. I have to disconnect and reconnect and everything works fine.

I find that when it comes to iphones and home wireless networks, that using 64bit encryption is the best. I'm not sure what you are using now, but give this a try.

You will need to check the settings of the router. You are able to go online when you connect the computer directly to the modem. Your internet service provider is DSL. You can try to reconfigure the router. Press the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. release it. unplug the power to the router. plug it back in. wait for 1 minute and try to reconfigure the router. Netgear routers are notorious for this. The firmware on the unit just loses connection. In order to fix this, you have to make sure that you have the latest firmware.

There are several version of your unit. go to the following page and download the firmware and update it to the latest non-beta release.

No wireless connection with my laptop

hi thanks for using fixya!

First of all, make sure that you have your internet connection from your provider.

Try to restart your pc or laptop, disconnect the cable from your router and pc, then install them back again, try to do a reset. Make sure that your router is turned on and working properly. Did you change any setting beforehand?

If you need further assistance, let me know!

Please rate me! thanks!

DSL line disconnects on WRT54GS only

Try to change the LAN IP address of your router to 192.168.2.1 by accessing the router's Setup page. You also need to set your Westell modem to "full-bridge mode". You need to ask assistance from your ISP to bridge the modem. After that, set-up the Linksys router to PPPoE then power cycle it.

Internet connection

It really happen when your using the setup CD to configure it.
You can also try to manually configure the router to work with your modem and ISP and also the wireless connection.
To configure the router manually you just need to access the router user interface and configure it from there.

Server not found} NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router doesn't connect me to the internet.

Dear Loud Nouises,

Your router must be connected properly to the cable modem. This must be to the wan port on the router.

Next, the router must be set-up accordingly to recognize the modem's internet connections. Please ask for the IP address.. and other relevant informations from your internet provider.

Set -up your computer using the internet connections wizard on each of your respective computer.

This should work fine if all connections were correctly configured.
