Question about Dell 1710n Laser Printer

Dell 1700/1710 Ready/Data light only indicators, can't reset

For no apparent the 1710 was working then Ready/Data light came on with no other indicators lite. I have turned it off and on, removed and reinstalled toner cartridge - all with no luck.

Any ideas?

    Nope. However, I did download a firmware patch about a year old and it will print a test page from the computer and from Word.

    However, the "Continue" button will print a 1710 test page, but the button never lights (except during warmup.)

I said nope on a system reset but this printer has no menu .

Hmmm..that's a bit odd...can you do a system reset from menu, to defaults?

Printer ready light never comes on but printer works


I've had this fault myself, If memory serves me right the control panel ( small though it is) we found to be the problem, once replaced the unit the displayed correctly, weirdly all functions of the printer were still available even though we were unable to see the display.
we were able to get config pages etc, and like you say the indicator lights were working- sort of - when they wanted to.
replace the diplay PWB ( its small and reasonably cheap)

To fix this-
Restore to the factory settings:
1. Power OFF the printer and DISCONNECT any data cables.
2. Open the side cover.
3. While pressing the Continue and Cancel buttons at the same time, turn on the printer.
4. CONTINUE to PRESS and HOLD the Continue and Cancel buttons until ALL the indicators are turned
on, then release the two buttons.
5. After the Continue, Error, and Ready/Data indicators go out, close the side cover.
The printer will:
* Initialize the non-volatile memory (NVM).
* Restart
* Prints the Printer Settings and Device Settings pages.
CAUTION: DO NOT turn off the printer during this process or the printer will cease to function.

Want to reset assigned Ip address on a dell 1720dn printer


When the Ready/Data light ready_light_icon_0.jpg is solid, press the Continue button continue_button_0.jpg to print a menu settings page and a network setup page.
Select TCP/IP heading on the network setup page.
There you can change your IP address.

This is a problem with the magenta cartridge in your printer. According to hp's website, you can try the following to fix it:

  1. Press the green (Select) button to continue.
  2. Turn the printer off, and turn it on again.
  3. Perform a cold reset.
    1. Turn the printer on.
    2. Watch the control panel.
    3. When the memory starts counting, press and hold the green (Select) button.
    4. Continue holding the green (Select) button until the Ready, Data, and Attention lights flash once, and then stay on steady.
    5. Release the (Select) button when the Ready, Data, and Attention light are on steady. The control panel will display SELECT LANGUAGE.
    6. Press (Down Arrow) button once. The control panel will display COLD RESET.
    7. Press (Select). The printer will perform a cold reset and then continue its power-on sequence.
  4. If this message persists, contact an HP-authorized service or support provider.

Dell 1700n Ready/Data light blinking (secondary fault)


Ok, try this--1.power off printer 2. open front door 3. press and hold continue and cancel buttons 4. power back on 5. wait until light sequence stops om error 6. power off and back on.
this resets factory defaults on the printer..

Printer won't print


According to the operation manual: If alarm light and data light blink every 5 seconds- TONER LOW (purchase more toner and have it ready when the 'toner empty' is indicated). If alarm light and data light stay lit- TONER EMPTY (replace toner cartrige with new one).

All available lights on printer are flashing


More or less your printer fuser has gone bad. Replace the fuse. I suggest that when buying a printer you don't with dell 1710N these printers gives a lot a problem. I work with them every day at work.

I suggest that you go with HP.
