My Onkyo TX-DS777 won't come out of standby mode. The red power light is still on but the receiver won't turn on otherwise. Help!

Ok. Strangely, the problem started earlier this week when the receiver would consistently cut on/off by itself. I would turn it off and leave it alone for awhile and eventually it would work alright again. I was just able to turn it back on. A friend mentioned something about an internal code that could be programmed from the receiver itself. Ever heard of anything like this?

    The first solution didn't work.

My Onkyo TX-DS777 won't come off of standby mode. I've tried unplugging it for an hour, checking all wires for frays, removing the casing and dusting out the inside of the receiver. Nothing seems to work. Help!

Thanks man. I've taken the casing off and looked for anything out of the ordinary but everything looks ok. However, I don't have much electrical experience so my eye is pretty untrained. Any particular area I should be looking?

This is an indication of an internal fault weather it be with in the power supply or output stage of amp that won't be know until serviced. but this is what need to be done . take it in for service and or check the fuses in side the unit in the power supply. not usally that simple but you will never know until it get opened up and looked at. good luck and ask any more question you have.

yes the heat sink (aluminum block) in side has a few transistors on it. see if there is any burns or black char if so the problem is in the amp. if not it may still be there but could also be i the power supply.

Start by unplugging the unit from the power outlet for several minutes to reset the brain inside. While it is unplugged, check all your speaker wires for loose filaments of copper that could be shorting out your amplifier causing a protection fault.

I hope that helps.

If Zones are turned on or, if a mobile device connected to the Front Input is charging (MHL), the HYBRID STANDBY indicator won't light. See the TX NR515 owner's manual at http://filedepot.onkyousa.com/Files/own_manuals/TX-NR515_English.pdf for more info.

No internal battery, a large "SuperCap" on the main board acts as one. Look for C8007, 0.1 F, 5.5V.

Power problem

Danny,

It may only need to be reset, unplug it for a min. plug it back in and try it.
Check your owners manual some will tell you how to reset them.

Also check for a jammed switch, press every switch one by one if one doesn't move that is the problem, you can possibly unjam it with a small screwdriver.

But it could need servicing.

Onkyo TX-DS777 goes straight to protection mode

Hello. You have shorted audio outputs. One of your channels has shorted output transistors. If your unit uses output ICs then one of them is shorted. Both types ( individual transistors or ICs ) are located on the large finned heat sink. The parts are available from http:\\www.tritronicsinc.com. good luck

Power light on, unit will not turn on with push button

When power was intermittant, were there any other discrepencies or audible power deprivation to the speakers? Your problem has many possibilites from fuses to major amplifier problems to common power supply failures. Being intermittant then dead may still be a simple fix, but not without some physical intervention of test gear. Sorry, Jaszy
