If water drains but spin does not occur, you know the motor is ok and probably the timer is ok; the problem is in the coupler between the motor and transmission (for the newer units 16years or less) or if older, it is in the wigwag selenoid coils which are not expensive but are tricky to replace or it is a slipping transmission (for the older unit). if it is the trans, it is not worth the cost for labor and parts, unless you do it yourself; and you'll need luck. Water keeps clicking of after 5 sec same with draining water and drum wont sprin

Hi Robert.

If the machine fills with water and cycle starts but it does not spin and drain, then possible problems are drain hose, drain filter, pressure switch and less frequently pump.

Before advancing to spin the timer board performs a test on drain part of the cycle, stops the drain and checks the door lock. Drain system, pressure switch and lid switch are all parts that if defective may cause no spin.

The first part to be tested is the drain system. This must be checked regardless of the fact that the pump is working. If there is blockage, residual water in the drain system or water flowing back from drain hose may cause the washer not detecting that drain is complete, and not advancing to spin.

Disconnect power and check the drain system, accessing drain filter and hose connected to the drain pump.
In most front loaders this is accessed removing the trim at the base of the front side of the appliance (under the door), and rotating the filter cap counterclockwise. The filter should be located behind the trim at the base of the washer.
Top loader usually offer access to pump either from back or from the bottom of the appliance. In some case (eg.Kenmore top load) you have to lean the machine forware to gain access to the bottom part of the unit, where the pump is located.

After opening the pump hose cover be prepared to collect a good amount of water. Keep a container at hand. Ensure that power is not connected before starting.

Also double check drain hose at the back of the appliance, and check that the elbow height is as prescribed in manual. Incorrect drain hose settings may result in syphoning, that means water is flowing back from drain hose into the washer tube. This may result in no spin.

After performing the check on the drain system test washer again. Sometimes removing eventual blockage in drain pump may fix this kind of problem.

If the pump is draining, but drain doesn't complete, and if there is no blockage in drain lines, a parts that may be causing the no-spin problem are pressure switch and door latch switch.

The door latch switch is checked by electronic control before advancing to spin. The door switch is tested running a cycle with the door switch contacts jumped. If the model has a lock motor more testing is needed. In that case the switch is tested ensuring that the lock motor impedance reads according to specifications and energizing the lock motor.

If the drain stops always at same point and cycle does not advance replace also the pressure switch. The pressure switch detects water level and determines when drain is over and when to advance to spin. This part is difficult to test in full, the part is not expensive and it is usually replaced without testing. Pressure switch is a common failure causing no spin. If drain is OK, then either pressure switch or lid switch/lock system is usually responsible.

If the above is OK , with top loaders you need to add to the list the problems related to motor and transmission. In front loaders, check problems related to motor and motor control unit. Such problems will be near to the end of the troubleshooting list. Check them before deciding to replace the electronic control.

Always disconnect power cord or trip the circuit breaker before performing maintainance operations.

If you need to contact a qualified technician, call the phone number listed on the owners manual.

Does not want to drain the water after washing circle

Hi.

Start checking the drain hose at the back, and the hose attached to the drain pump, located at the bottom of the appliance. After that access the control panel and clean the hose attached to the pressure switch. Also check the lid is closing well. Those are the only easy fixes.

The first parts to check are door latch and drain system.

The timer performs an additional check on the door latch before advancing to spin. The door switch it is tested by jumping its contacts, or by reading impedance to check if the switch is opening and closing the circuit (you will need a multimeter).

About the drain system,
if the machine does not drain, then the cycle will not advance to spin.

The electronic control checks the input from pressure switch (which detects water level) before advancing to spin part of the cycle. If there is a drain problem, then the machine will not spin.

The first step will be accessing the drain pump.

Kenmore top loaders' washer pump is accessed from the bottom side of the appliance.
Get ready to collect the water that will come from inside the tub.

Check also the drain hose at the back. Ensure that the height of the hose elbow is respecting the specifications indicated in manual. A wrongly placed hose will result in water going in the washer drain pump and tub, causing drain problems and no spin.

If lid switch and drain lines are OK, replace the pressure switch, which is difficult to test (it is tested reading impedance with tub full and empty. Before replacing the switch, you can try cleaning it and blowing into the switch pipe. Check also motor before replacing the switch. The switch is connected to a long rubber hose and it is located in the control panel.

Below an article about the no spin problem. If the problem is coming with no drain, check drain filter, drain hose at the back. If they are OK, the pressure switch may need to be replaced or the pump may be defective.

Here the general troubleshooting for no spin: If you have no spin there may be different reasons behind the problem.

Washer spin but water do not stay in drum

Hi,

Sounds like your drain is laying on the floor, or your stand pipe is too low, or the drain hose is too far down in the stand pipe. The drain must be at least as hi as your water level in the machine at it's fullest level, otherwise it will just siphons out almost as quickly as it fills.

Hope that helps,

Good Luck.

New water pump, cleaned trap, checked little vaccuum hose and it wont do final spin. No errors on panel and everything else works fine

If your washer fills to the correct level, agitates through the wash cycle, and then drains, I would check the door safety switch for proper positioning and switching operation. The switch should have minimal resistance (closed circuit) when it is depressed and high resistance (open circuit) when released.

Kenmore 70 series Washer will not drain and spin

You have a bad lid switch . Try inserting something into the hole on the top and see if that starts the machine in drain/spin . If not , still bad lid switch . If so , tells you still bad lid switch .

The clothes are still wetafter rinse/spin. After 2 or 3 more spins they are ok.

check the drain hose for kinks or too much of a rise If the water does not completly drain before the cycle starts it will not spin fast enough to spin out the clothes. also check the belt condition. The belt could be slipping.

Will not drain/spin. Yesterday, the load was out of balance...

Try unplugging the washer and let the curcuit board reboot. Unplug for 5 min. Then try moving the selector to spin to drain the washer. Sometime selecting too many modes trying to get something working can confuse the electronics. Reboot the curcuit board and try just spin cycle.
