Cracked front cover at hinges (by 19 users)

Uponcloser inspection it seems the left hinge began seizing up with the opening andclosing of the screen and it was becoming slightly harder and harder to closeover the past several months and was making slight creaking noises until thehinge finally stopped rotating and by that time the force from pulling the liddown pulled the plastic away from the hinge that was no longer rotating -something had to give and it wasn't the seized up hinge it was the plasticencasing the LCD screen. The plastic pulled apart at the corner and the hingethat was not longer rotating was acting as an obstacle pulling the plasticfarther apart if I closed the lid. I eventually popped the broken left hingeout of the hinge compartment to prevent it from damaging the plastic around thescreen anymore and I am using just the right hinge for now as it is working byitself to close the screen and hold it up for viewing. I will eventually superglue the corner of the plastic screen encasement and look for some otheroptions to assemble some replacement hinge system to compensate for the brokenhinge that I had to remove.

Seems like the hinges were not of a very high quality (maybe someone skimped onthe hinge procurement) or maybe Acer received a bad batch especially if this isa systematic problem that is affecting many Acer laptop users.

Acer is known for packing a lot of mid range features into low-cost laptopsystems so I reckon something had to pare down costs in other areas of thelaptop materials ... looks like it may have been the hinges.

well guys i am having the same problem and write to acer about the bad design of the product but i know no one going to take care i spent 5$ on calling different executive at acer so the only solution i think is to repair it and sell it ASAP and buy some other laptop. can any one tell where i can find cheap lcd back cover.

I was sort of suprised to see that this was a problem for many people. I have cracks on both sides and the keyboard has at least 3 keys that have fallen off. Im planning to get a different brand of laptop. ACER SUCKS.

I've had the same problem twice. The first time I sent it in to be repaired and it came back good as new, but four months later, despite being careful, the crack is back in the same spot and has been growing since.

My acer 3610 also had a crack but on the right side i contacted acer and they fixed it for me.

is the crack in the hinge itself, or is it in the body of the bezel of the lcd?
