I have had my acer 3610 for a year and a half now, and at the hinge on the front of my laptop there is a large crack that just continues to grow, the more I use it.
Is anyone else having this problem??

Same probelm. The back of the screen is cracket by the hindges and the silver pieces have broke of and today the screws fell off. I have about 8 buttons missing. I think acer is a horrible product and will never purchase it again.
I will be contacting Acer to let them know my opinion of their product.

I have acer aspire 3610 which is almost 2 years old by now. Since I keep my laptop open most of the time, there is a big crack at the hinge of the lid on both side. I noticed it very lately. Also, there is some internal disturbance inside the LCD screen near the place where the crack is.
Is there any solution for this.

My Acer Aspire 7100 Laptop has the same problem after only 1 year the left hinge has cracked all the way to the inside now and now it doesn't close right and I paid over 1500.00 for it. Never again will I buy an Acer Now my wifes HP compact has a better hinge system and she has not had one problem with hers so just a word of advice do not buy an acer and look closely at the hinges of the computer you do buy and make sure they look like the HP Compact laptops hinges. And Acer should feel ashamed to place their name on these crappie notebooks they are making. They should be forced to fix these peices of junk!

Yep me too. the crack on the left hinge only gets worse! The corner of mine looks like it is almost ready to break off. I have had mine for three years and the right hinge has started to crack now. I can see inside. Is there anything we can do?

Seems like the hinges were not of a very high quality (maybe someone skimped onthe hinge procurement) or maybe Acer received a bad batch especially if this isa systematic problem that is affecting many Acer laptop users.
Acer is known for packing a lot of mid range features into low-cost laptopsystems so I reckon something had to pare down costs in other areas of thelaptop materials ... looks like it may have been the hinges.

Yes! I have had this laptop for less than two years and the top cover began to crack near the left hinge within a year! The extended warranty that I purchased from Nebraska Furniture Mart does not cover the case, just the electronics. I am really hot about this! Did anyone have any luck dealing directly with ACER?

Same thing happened to my sons. I was wondering what he was doing to it. Glad there are other posts with same problem. I will call Acer and see if they are going to do anything. I have a retail computer store and we will se what they tell us as dealers. ccenter@neb.rr.com

Same problem: my 3610 developed a crack on the cover next to the left hinge. It keeps growing as I open/close the cover and I am afraid it will eventually damage the LCD screen. I've been trying to not close the lid as much as I can but I have to if I'm traveling with the PC. I've tried super-glueing the crack but that didn't work at all.
I thnk the problem is that the hinges on this laptop, unlike other laptops, are quite stiff and it takes a bit of an effort to open the lid. While you are opening it, it pivots the lid and puts a torsional load on it. The plastic lid was not designed for that load.

Yay, it turns out since I charged the purchase on my Mastercard, and I still have the receipt, and I still have a copy of the warranty the laptop has an additional 1 year warranty provided by the bank that issued my credit card. I called and they are sending me a claim form. I don't know how long the process will take, but it's better than nothing. So, check your receipts to see how you originally paid for the laptop.

I bought two of these laptops for my kids back in Aug 06. One of them had this problem almost right away. My son kept using it until it was close to the time the warranty ran out and then I called Acer. They instructed me to send it back, which I did. About a week and a half later, it was returned looking like brand new! Now the other one is just starting to crack, so I plan on checking with my credit card company to see if it is covered from when I bought it.

have the same problem, case is cracked above both hinges and one hinge is now totally broken free
Comment by leo2448, posted on Feb 20, 2008
Mine started as a crack on the front cover at the left corner over the edge of the hinge, then the corner broke off completely and then the same thing happened on the right corner. Both corners are off, and the cover is detached from the hinges. The screen still works but it is very fragile.
