The power blue light is on, however the tv does not turn on, makes no sound when the power button or remote is used. We have changed batteries in the remote and checked that the connections are tight.

My Olivia TV model 232 S12 will not operate. The blue light on the front of the set is on. Neither the remote or the on/off button will turn-on the TV. I have checked the power cord and the connections-all OK. What can I do next?

Hi,

It seems that there is a Problem with Power Supply Board. Open the TV and look for Power Supply Board. Once you find the Board, Pull out the Connectors. Take the Board out. With the help of magnifying glass, you need to check Cold Solder Joints. If not, then Check the Caps and Fuses. I imagine, if this could be due to Power Shut Off, you would be able to Find Some Bulged / Swelled / Leaked Caps. You would smell Ammonia kind of odor. You need to pull them out. Order the same Caps online or go to Radio Shack. It would cost you few bucks, in fact less than 20 bucks. Once you get the Caps, solder them and it is all set.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems the issue is with the power board or the main board we’ll need to check few things. When you open the unit up; take a look at the power board-the board where, the power cords/plugs goes into. You might see some filter capacitors a little bulged up in the top-If this is the case-this is your defective part(you can try to replace them-but some soldering equipment is needed). If not, then probably the main board has gone bad. This is the other board-where all he inputs are going into. Also check for the Backlight Inverter Board if the sound is coming fine from the TV however as its shutting off so it should be either the power board or the main board. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise and know how to solder/re-solder components.
. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

The remote control is an acess to the TV device for example only from a distance. A remote controll for functionality would require to insert batteries a power source making possible communiction with devices requiring reception transmittion of signals. The TV should momentarily produce a sound and lighting effect,, and displaying on the dark screen a light blue screen. Do you have back light when turning on the TV? if you do then just replace the main board should resolve the problem. if you do not have back light, you will need to replace the inverter board(s) depending on your model. The inverter board(s) is located on the left side of the TV facing back of TV. you may have two inverter boards depending on your model. the other is located on the right side of the TV. Both mount vertically.
