Hard drives have jumper settings on them on the back if you can see the original hard drive pull it out by removing screws look at the rear of the drive the jumper settings for the drives are called master, slave, and cable select. If your hard drive is on a cable by itself it is more then likely set as cable select, if it has a hard drive and cd rom etc on one cable the hard drive will be set to master and cd set to slave if you have more then one hard drive on one cable the new one will be master load windows on the drive then you may set the old drive to slave hook it to the cable and restart you could save some of your things on old drive by pulling them to the new drive. This is really complicated for someone who has not done it before but if you follow the rules above you will be successful. If this helps leave feedback if it does'nt you want to consider taking your machine to a proffesional it is a ten minute job to them. Thanks have a nice day hope this helps if not repost and we will help you.

What the heck does the above answer have to do with hard drive location...This unit has a SATA drive and don't need or have jumper settings! I repair computers for a living and short of splitting the case open...I don't see the main drive access either.

How do I replace the harddrive in my sony VGC-LV150J all in one pc. I don't want to replace the harddrive that you can add to the computer by installing it into the harddrive bay but I want to...

you will need to disassemble the all in one, which is not the easiest thing if you dont know what you are doing, i would recommend bringing it to a repair shop to have it swapped.

Must replace my harddrive but I don't know the connection that I must use.

If it is a wide connector that goes in to the hard drive it is called IDE and if it is narrow it is SATA connection. On the following picture left one is IDE and right one is SATA. Hope this helps.

I'm trying to open the case on my Sony Vaio VGC-LS21N integrated desktop computer, to replace the hard drive. Any ideas how to get it open and/or where the HDD is located inside the case?

Hi! You may download the Manual HERE and see how you can take out the hard drive out from the tower. Please be cautious while taking out the harddrive to avoid any incident.

Please help! How to get to the internal hard disk of this computer for a replacement? Model is Sony VGC-LT16e Thanks!

In order to get to hard drive 0 you need to take the whole back panel off the computer. They make it rather easy to add a second drive (drive 1), but to get at drive 0 there are about 20 screws to take out and then the whole back panel will lift off and give you access to the main hard drive.

Adding a IDE hard drive

It appears that your system has one ide controller for the optical drives, and one sata controller for the hard disk(s).

I recommend installing another SATA drive, the controller in your system is SATA150, so don't spend any extra for a SATA II (300) interface, though if you find a good deal on one, there's no harm in using it, they're backwards compatible to SATA I.  I've been seeing 500gig SATA drives on sale for around 100$.
