Question about Ovens

1 Answer

I have to look at my mother in laws Ram Program 2000 oven, she lives in Skegness I live in Bristol, I have to visit her anyway so the distance is not the problem however I want to go armed with knowledge and a few parts in case. The problems are when using the Grill oven the control knob gets hot and when using the main oven the fan doesn't work. Some one has told me it might be the temperature probe shorting making the control knob heat up and that the fan motor can be checked by putting a positive and a negative on the appropriate terminals of the disconnected fan motor. The cooker has 2 ovens the top one is the "grill" oven and the bottom one is the baking oven I presume,How many temperature probes will there be and where are they usually fitted? How many fan motors will there be? and how many heating elements will there be? Are parts readily available for these ovens and who makes the Ram ovens. if you can think of any other possible causes of her faults (the ovens that is, not the mother in laws)could you please explain them and how I could check them (Iam ok with a multimetre if I know what Iam looking for) Many thanks

Separate it down into chunks

The top Grill will have its own stat & probe of which the probe will sit near the top of the oven cavity.(Same for the lower unit)

Very unlikely that the switch is warming up that much inside that it would transfer the heat to the outer knob, to get that hot the switch would burn out.

There is normally a cooling fan in the back of the unit which draws air out of the rear cavity and ejects it through slots in the front of the oven.

These are controlled by a timer pcb and do fail, if they do, the air is not moved and gets hotter which can warm the controls panel and the knobs up

The bottom oven will have a fan which no doubt has siezed up due to cooking grease and can be freed off with a dose of WD40 however it will sieze up again unless you strip it down to polish the shafts

Each oven has its own element.

Parts are available from Espares.

Ram ovens will be made by someone like Gorenge in Poland and badge engineered for the UK.

I have just purchased a new electric cooker. The old one had three terminals in the back, one each for live, neutral and earth. The new one has three marked live, two marked neutral and one marked earth. I...

Live goes to live as normal earth to earth as normal, and the neutral is probably a comonj terminal, in other words it probably has a lnk joining the 2 neutrals together.

Whirlpool Gold AccuBake - Auto Clean does not work

The cost of fixing this will be anywhere from 50-200 dollars. There are several variables here. The big expense comes in labor. With one this old, I would just live without it or you just have to have a self clean, go ahead and but a new one for about 400-450 dollars. You are looking at the last quarter of the oven's life anyway especially if you use it a lot. Fortunately for you, the oven still works fine without it.
