I am unable to use the ac adapter. the connector has broken off inside the adapter plug.

firstly check the power supply is working, if it is not, replace it with a new one. the next thing would be to replace the socket on the notebook, as this may be broken. it would have to have the solder connections checked or replaced with a new one.

i hope this was useful

Asus Eee 1005HA hangs on boot

This works for my Asus Eee PC
1. Shut down and remove the battery.
2. Press the power button 10 times, next 1 minute pressing down.
3. Remove the memory and at the motherboard you'll see a clrrst (clear reset cmos..)
4. Short these 2 tiny pads by placing a tiny screw driver for 5 seconds, plug the power adapter and turn-on the switch, next wait at least for 3 seconds. Remove the power adapter.
5. Place back the battery and turn-on. You'll see the same screen (Logo of Asus) then patiently wait for at least 10 minutes or more. That's it.Good luck.

Broken power plugin port

The power plug in port you refer to is the DC Power Jack.

The AC adapter (Charger) converts AC electricity into DC electricity.
DC electricity has two poles. Positive, and Negative.
(Just like on a D cell flashlight battery)

The center pin of the DC Power Jack is the Positive connection.
The outer metal spring-like pieces, on the inside of the cylindrical shape surrounding the center pin, are the Negative connection.
(The pieces of spring-like metal, all connect to the Negative connection in the DC Power Jack)

[ Note*
Cannot agree with the replacement instructions they offer, at the bottom of the page.
Not everyone has access to a hot-air gun. A 25 Watt soldering iron, and Desoldering Braid, is better, and more easily accessed ]

1) Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter, (Charger), and Battery.
2) Observe Anti-Static Precautions. Buy, and use an ESD wrist strap.
Electro Static Discharge.

(Average cost is from $3 to $6. Connect the alligator clip to a good ground source.
I connect to an unpainted surface, of the metal frame of an open, empty desktop computer case.

When you put the charger they have light and no power

Please remove and clean the Battery terminals of the Notebook, make sure that the output pin of the AC Adapter is properly connected to the notebook. The fault might be either with the output pin of the AC Adapter or Input DC socket of the Notebook.

No power/charge

Check that the battery is properly installed. Check the AC Adapter for power. Otherwise take the machine back to the seller. It is still under warranty.

Laptop will not turn on

Unplug the ac adapter from the back of the computer. Make sure it's plugged to an electric outlet. check if the ac adapter light is solid green. if not. then you have to replace it.

If it is solid green, reconnect it to the computer, if the light on the adapter goes out as soon as you plug it in to the system, you need to replace the motherboard. call dell to seek your options for replacement.
