Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I have a Lady Kenmore electric dryer (40 years old maybe?), model 110 6508923, which I cleaned the vents, strong air, tumbles fine. The heating element glows orange for a few moments, then as it finally starts to heat up, the heat stops. Is this a thermal cutoff problem, or some thermostat issue? Any help really appreciated Dave

Thank you, IWILL for responding. It seems once it cycles off, it just stops producing heat, which is why I thought it may be some type of cut-off thermostat (I know nothing about dryers). The exhaust pipe also starts out blowing warm air at the beginning of the cycle, but then the heat shuts off, and everything keeps going for hours, until I shut it off. I figured it would at least air dry (tried that setting vs heat dry), and air is still coming outta the vent pipe Even direct-vented to cellar, to test, just won't seem to dry anymore. She is 40+ years, and has never had a problem, so maybe it is retirement time. I don't have an ohms meter, and probably couldn't figure one out, so other than replacing a few smaller parts (some heat sensors of some sort), my skills are way limited.

The element is supposed to cycle on and off thru out the drying cycle as not to burn clothes. Is it just taking too long to dry. If it is your exhaust from the wall behind the dryer to the outside is clogged somehow. I like to use a leaf blower stuck inside the exhaust behind the dryer and blow the whole line out to the outside of the home.

You need to replace the heating coil that is usually the problem when you get air and and the tumbler is moving but no drying you can also check the lint catcher and clear out your dryer outgoing vent remove the hose check the dryer vent where the vent hose is connected and the vent going outside the house before changing the heating coil .

Dryer heats up, but does not dry clothes. Vent is clean

As you can see, your heating element has 5 heating coils. If one or more of these coils have opened you dryer will still work and heat but not at well as it would if all coils worked together. You can check each coil with an ohm meter to verify if one or more is open.

My Kenmore dryer has heat, tumbles fine but I have to run 2 cycles to dry clothes and 3 - 4 cycles for towels. The vent line is new and I can feel damp warm air where it exits the vent line. It worked fine...

Hi,

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have nottaken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then youneed to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should takeplace. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causesfor your dryer to fail.

1 year old Kenmore dryer tumbles but doesn't heat.

If it is 1 year old, call Kenmore , they will probably fix it as a courtesy call.

If not quote that the machine is not fit for purpose as it should not have gone wrong so quick

Dryer heats, tumbles clothes, blows air out exhause vent, but wont dry clothes

what type is this electric or gas? have you removed the exsaust from the wall and ran a load like this? if you have heat and this is an electric dryer it sounds like you have a blockage in your house. if the dryer runs fine without the exsaust attached then that is your problem. let me know

Dryer Heats - Drum Turns - Clothes Don't Dry - Dryer Seems To Over Heat

Before ripping into the dryer, with the dryer running, check the vent outside. There should be a rather strong air flow. I'll bet you have little or maybe no air flow. Check behind the dryer to make sure you don't have squished flex duct. If you have flex pipe, try running the dryer for a few minutes with the dryer pulled out into the room to stretch the vent out, and check outside airflow again. Try to eliminate all or as much of the flex stuff as you can, replacing it with aluminum dryer vent pipe. (tape joints with foil duct tape) Clean out remaining dryer vent. (there are special brushes you can buy to clean out vents, but they really only work on ridgid pipe.)
