APT Error. Context: Package download failed, Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. Kubuntu Unbutu 8.04 (?) KDE 4.X (?) Typical of Linux difficult to find out anything without a plug-in to one's brain direct from OS !! How do I get rid of broken packages, if need to remove? The error message confuses and leaves much to desire while being left in the lurch. Please advise.

Try
apt-get update

it will attempt to resynchronize the debs that you have.

apt-get upgrade

may help you sort out problems with the data sources (suppliers) of deb packages on your system.

apt-get clean

may help as well.

All documentation can be seen by opening up a terminal session and typing

man apt-get

Good luck, and hang in there.

How can I fix the problem of not being able to use Synaptic Package Manager or Update Manager in Linux Mint 1i KDE?

Did you run sudo dpkg --configure -a in terminal? Can you reinstall the update manager? Sounds like everything needs to be removed and reinstalled from terminal, and maybe a sudo apt-get autoremove followed by an update? It seems like the only reason synaptic and software manager wouldn't work is you've over tinkered with your os, and maybe accidentally removed something you needed for those things to run. I'm new to Linux myself, so beyond that idk. If all else fails, backup and do a fresh install to get your system back to it's original state.

How can I connect the USB Bluetooth bugs in Ubuntu 8.10?

<p>USB and Bluetooth connectivity errors in Ubuntu 8.10 are the result of two different errors. If you are running KDE, you have a patch on their Bluetooth connectivity problems (see Resources) to download correct. USB connection errors are the result of a bug in the current version of the Linux kernel. Run "apt-get package manager to upgrade the kernel is usually the fastest and most trouble-free. Installation of sqldeveloper on ubuntu 12.4

First, make sure you have JDK 7 installed. Then,
  1. Install alien with the command sudo apt-get install alien. This is used to convert RPM packages
  2. Download the Oracle SQL Developer package if you have not done so already.
  3. Run alien on the RPM package: alien -d package.rpm.
  4. Install the package with the command sudo dpkg -i package.deb. If there is a message saying there is a dependency problem while installing it, you can fix it by running sudo apt-get -f install.

Installing Ubuntu Server on Dell Dimension 2400?

Step 1:
The Ubuntu Linux operating system is available either with or without a desktop environment. The version with the desktop environment is meant for personal use and includes word processing, email and graphic editing software. The version without the desktop environment is called "Ubuntu Server." The server version does not come with any graphical software or productivity software. There are three different desktop environments available for the Ubuntu operating system. The default is the Gnome desktop. The other two are the KDE and the XFCE desktop environments.

Log into the server. Type the command "sudo apt-get update" to update the list of software packages available. Type the command "sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop" to install the Gnome desktop. Type the command "sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop" to install the XFCE desktop. Type the command "sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop" to install the KDE desktop. Type the command "sudo reboot" to reboot the server. Ubuntu Linux Tutorials,Howtos,Tips & News http://www.ubuntugeek.com/install-gui-in-ubuntu-server.html

Can I get My Computer icon in Ubuntu 11.10

There is no My computer icon in KDE.
On the task bar click the K with the Gear. Explore the Favorites menu. Make sure that the Dolphin file explorer is there. By clicking Dolphin your Home folder will open.
You can also add a widget on the desktop. Point to some empty space on the desktop. Right click the mouse button then select Add widgets. At the bottom of the screen some windows open. In the categories, look for file sytem. Choose and enter. A widget of your home will be displayed.

One advice. I think you should run the Synaptic Package. Manager to make sure you get all necessary packages for KDE. In the QuickFilter text area enter KDE. All packages that relate to KDE will be displayed. Explore to see if there is something you need that was not installed.
Select all the packages you want. Any package required for the one you selected will be chosen for installation.

If you are using Ubuntu, you can remove it either from the Synaptic Package Manager tool, or from the command line with the command sudo apt-get remove google-chrome. This will not work with most other distributions.
