Question about Canon PIXMA MP780 All-In-One InkJet Printer
I would try a plain copy first, either black or color. If copies look OK then you need adjustments to your scanning software. Canon didn't make the individual parts available for that scanner so in order to replace you need to buy the entire scanner and panel assembly. There are some calibrations and adjustments available in the service mode, only available at Canon repair shops. So definitely try copies to see what your scanner is doing as when it wanders too far out of calibration it gives scanner errors and you didn't mention having those errors. If you need I can get you the scanner part number and aprox. price.
