Plugged in not charging

meyers975,
The battery may need to be replaced if it is no longer charging.
NOTE:
The Battery on the Inspiron 1545 does not have the charge indicator LEDs. USE the F3 key or the method illustrated below to launch the Dell Battery Meter. The system bios can also be used to determine the battery charge level.
Navigate to the control panel and click the Power Options icon.
Click the Dell Battery Meter option on the left
Check the Battery Status for the Primary battery under the Battery Status tab. Click also the battery health tab to see what the status reads.
If you need to purchase another battery for your system you can contact the Dell Spare Parts Depatment at 1-877-717-3355

Thank You,

Hi! My Dell D610 doesn't charge the battery. When I plug the charger without a batt, the system powers on but the batt doesn't get charged when attached. Help me solve this problem pls.

1. Install and update the system BIOS:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&ServiceTag=&SystemID=LAT_PNT_PM_D610&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
Note: Make sure that both the ac adapter and the battery are attached to the notebook. Follow on-screen instructions on how to flash the BIOS.

2. If Dell QuickSet is installed, press <Fn><F3> to display the QuickSet Battery Meter. The Battery Meter displays status, battery health, charge level, and charge completion time for the battery in your computer. If battery health says that the battery is degraded and needs replacement, then you may need to replace your battery.

First of all, you need to make sure your power adapter is providing enough power to both run the laptop & charge the battery. A very good way to do this is to compare your laptop voltage & ampere requirements (written on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop) with the voltage & ampere ratings of the power adapter. Voltages should be the same, or the power adapter's voltage about up to 0.5 volts more than the laptop's voltage rating. Amperage of the power adapter should be at least equal to or greater than the laptop's rating. It should never be less than the laptop's rating, or else the power adapter will be providing insufficient amperes to charge the battery. Of course, the power adapter's nominal amperage might be ok, but it degraded on usage. You can verify this by testing using a good or new power adapter.
If the battery did not charge using the new power adapter, take the battery off the laptop, & using a dry tooth brush, scrub in between the fins of the battery connector on the motherboard & on the battery it self, then put the battery back into the laptop & try again.
If this still did not resolve the problem, then the battery itself could be bad. Try it on another laptop, or try a good or new battery in your laptop.
If this did not work, there might be a possibility that the charging circuitry on the laptop's motherboard is defective & needs servicing. In order to do this, the laptop needs to be disassembled & the motherboard checked for defective/burned out components in the area near the DC jack. Any defective/burned out components found should be replaced, or you might need to replace the laptop's motherboard altogether

Dell C600 not charging replacement battery. NOt charging original battery either. Red light blinking constant. Is the problem iside the laptop?

I would say that it has to be. The port connecting the battery may be blocked or damaged. Make sure you don't have a battery leak.
