Question about Frigidaire Dryers

I have a Fridgidaire Gas Dryer Model GLGQ2152ES0 that was working fine. I put in a new load, pressed the start button and all I get is a hum.

This does not appear to be the problem. The hum I get is an electrical hum as if a signal is being sent and a relay is humming but not closing. My wiring diagram talks about getting error codes by turning the cycle dial to 3 oclock pressing the start and cancel buttons simultaneously and then moving the dial to 2 oclock to read the digital error code. I can't figure out where the start point on the dial is to determine the 3 oclock or 2 oclock position since the dial keeps turning and has no stops.

The solution offered doesn't address my problem. The humming noise I hear is like an electrical hum as if the signal is going out but something isn't sending the signal to the motor.

The solution was right on. However, I do not believe it was the motor, I believe it was something that got stuck around the drum that had to be loosened.

Try this, you will need someone to help you. Open the door, have someone push the start button at the same time as they push the door switch, while you reach in and turn the drum one way or the other. The dryer will only start in one direction, so if it doesn't start in one direction, try the other. Be very careful when you do this that you do not get your arm stuck in the dryer. Give it a quick push and get your arm out. If the dryer starts up, you have a bad start winding in the motor, and will have to replace the motor. If it does not start up then you probably have a bad control, but will need to have it tested to make sure. If the drum does start up like this, do not use the dryer until you have the motor replaced. Very dangerous. One more thing, if your hum is coming from the motor, and it continues for many minutes, without shutting down, you may just have a broken belt, or one that came off. You have a square access panel in the back lower corner, remove this and see if your belt is off. Make sure the power is disconnected first. If none of this works, then let me know whether the hum is coming from the timer/control area or lower, from the motor. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

Thanks for using FixYa.
A common problem with noises from dryers has been the under wire that may come out of a bra. In dryers, they can get caught in one of the drum seals and make a scrapping noise, (remove power, grab a flash light and have a peek inside through the door opening) or the wire can actually pass through one of the heating duct holes at the back of the drum and touch something electrical like the heating element, thermostats. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Whirlpool dryer runs, hums, then quits

Sounds like the motor is on it's last legs. Replace it. But, before paying huge money for a motor and the labor to install it, I suggest that you price a new dryer and compare it to the repair costs. It may still be a little more for a new dryer, but....IT'S NEW!

Dryer wont start when start button is pressed, but humming sound

I'd sure start by making sure the belt isn't broken. You can usually see the belt with a flashlight after accessing the panel (some are in front, others in the rear) - don't go probing around bare armed without unplugging the unit....

Dryer won't start all the time. can hand start unit.

hate to be the bearer of bad news but it sounds like ur motor is going out. Had this happen to my last dryer. If this is the case it will eventually just stop. Try running it without any laundry in it. if this works, then load it and see if it still works. (poor little motor has to work a bit harder with a full load) good luck.

Fridgidaire Gas Dryer - Mod.#FDG 546 RBS 0 Press start button just a humming noise, drum doesn't turn. Tried rotating the drum manually and it turns only with great effort so I don't think is't a belt. 12+...

Your glides are brobably broken and missing. This will make the drum hard to turn and bind the motor. Get the front off the dryer:

Get the screws out that hold the front on and take a look:

Whirlpool gas dryer won't start

you most likely have a bad motor. Motors run around 100 dollars since the machine is 20 years old it would be a good idea to replace it with a new dryer. if i were you i would stick with a whirlpool product.
