My laptop a dell inspiron is really slow and the virus scan shows multiple viruses but i don't have the money to pay to have it cleaned internaly is there another way to make it go faster?

Download and install microsoft security essentials.Run a full scan. After that do a disk cleanup and a disk defragment.

This process may take an hour or so depending on how many viruses are found.

My HP Pavilion 9000 will freeze up and is incredible slow, sometimes taking over an hour to execute a command. I have run 2 virus softwares I have defraged I've deleted unused software, and I have also...

most of the time to much programs that are installed can cost that or software's that need to much memory or you can also be right that a virus can causing it...the best solution that you can do is to re-format your laptop and re-install all the drivers then choose carefully which software's and anti-virus you need and which one can work properly with your laptop.you can also upgrade your memory

Xp is running very slow, it takes forever for a task to complete- ie installing software. Ran defrag, disk clean up, spy ware removal, antivirus.

1. Try removing temp files from hdd
2. Uninstall all malwares and antivirus, try using trial version of Mcaffee 8.7i with updates and scan viruses and remove it.
3. If memory is low try increasing upto 1GB atleast.
4. Try reloading OS.

My pc seems to be running slow. t ran the dic

Type CTRL-ALT-DELETE, and click "Task Manager".

The "Performance" tab will show you the CPU-busy percentage
(it will be high when a computer-game is running, or when a computer-virus is running, or when a DEFRAG is running, or when Windows Update is running as a "background" task).

It will also show how much physical RAM is installed,
and how much of that RAM is "free' (currently not being used).

On the 'Processes' tab, you can see which process is using the largest share of the CPU, and the largest amount of RAM. Close any "runaway" process.

Run a virus-scan.

Computer slow

Sir,

The problem is caused for many reasons. One of the main reasons is virus infected. Install a good and full version of anti-spyware software and full scan it. Update the antivirus frequently and clean the unwanted files, registries etc..... using the cleanup tool from this site

Thanks
Good Luck

Dell DIM. 3000 PC very slow & freezes up at times.

There are several reasons for a slow computer:
  1. Processor speed
  2. Memory size
  3. Too many program running
If your computer used to run fine, then it could be that there is too much running now for it to handle, in which case either a cleanup or upgrade (or both) is in order. Based on the specs from the CNET website, the Dimension 3000 comes with a Celeron D 2.4 GHz processor and 256MB of RAM (Memory).

If this is the case, then your memory needs to be upgraded at the very minimum. Anything less than 1 GB (1024 MB) just doesn't cut it anymore.

I would also HIGHLY suggest looking at the programs you have running in the system tray (bottom right corner of the screen) to see how many programs you have running, you might check to see if all of those are necessary.

My computer

It could be a thousand things, but here are a couple you can try.
You should run your computer in safe mode and do a virus scan.
  1. restart your computer and press F8
  2. select safe mode with networking
  3. update your antivirus program
  4. do a full virus scan
You could also defragment your hard drive.

  1. click start
  2. right click 'my computer'
  3. on the left side click manage
  4. click disk defragmenter
  5. click  'C drive'
  6. click defragment.
Now go and watch some TV because its gonna take a long time to defragment your hard drive. You could also upgrade your RAM (memory)
Another option is to reinstall windows. Save whatever data or pictures you want to a usb stick or cd .If you have the windows cd that came with your computer, than put it in the cd rom and restart your computer. And if you have nothing imorrtant on your hard drive than click "format'. This well wipe your hard drive clean and start from scratch. Than follow the instructions on the screen.
Any problems let me know. Tell me how you made out, and please rate my answer.

Slow, slow, slow...

1gb would be the minimum I would run. 2-4gb would be ideal. Vista is a memory and resource hog. Please, upgrade RAM asap! You will enjoy your computer so much more.
