Are the IC's something that are plug in replacement? and, if so, how do I go about it?

  • gary300 Jan 31, 2010

I am NOT an electronics wizard, I can pull plug in parts and replace them, but to identify a burned out transistor is probably beyond my pay grade

TV has 3 Fans Lamp Fan,Ballast Fan and DMD module Fan, Look on Far Left side of TV chassis this is where your power supply board is Look for Bad or Vented Capacitors 1000uf 10v- 2200uf 16v -3300uf 10v if you see any that are vented on top or puffed up on top they are bad.
CK the DMD FAN if it stops running it is defective and that could cause problem also. For Module/Boards Call Encompass Parts Distrubtion

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Heat is the number one enemy of electronics, and these sets operate hot. This problem is caused by the power supply being overloaded. This is often caused by failed convergence ICs. I don’t think the issue is with the power supply of the unit as the sound is coming fine from the unit. This model of TV has over 3,000 parts which include millions of transistors inside the integrated circuits. Over time the capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. This will cause other components to become defective. This can has a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TV operate for a short time but the part will fail again since if the parts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced. The typical cost to get this fixed by a pro is about $300 - and it doesn't mean that he/they will do a job better than you do. The parts are less than $100 (about $20-$30 for the IC's) if you want to do it yourself. Replacing only the IC's MAY solve the problem; however, many people have also had blown resistors requiring replacement. Why would you ask should you replace both of the IC's if only one is shot?! If one is shot the other one is not far away and for that little price of the chips it worth changing them both at the same time. Also the convergence board should be checked for cracked solder. If you replace the ICs and the resistors are shot, the ICs may blow again almost immediately, meaning you may have to do the repair twice.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

You have to open the back off the TV and blow the dust off then check for the power board for blown components and the convergence board for replacing the ICs. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

    Thanks

Then as I said earlier its always better to get this done by a authorized repair center, and you'll be charged around $200-$300 including labor. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

    Thanks

Samsung HL-R6768W started making squeal noise from rear of TV. At same time lost picture and will not come back on. Sound is ok and you can hear light trying to turn on. Can fan motor not working correctly...

Look at the fan and verify its comming from the fan and not the power supply unit, you can clean the fan or replace it, but yes the fan would be likly the problem. Make sure you double check the power supply unit and clean if its needed,
