Canon Pixma MP800 Prints a 1/4" black stripe on back of page. Is emptying the large PGI-5 cartridge in record time. Have replaced cartridge, run cleaning and maintenance routines. Cleaned bottom...

I have seen this before but it has not caused the black to run out quickly. if you look into the machine you will see at one end of the platen roller it will be swimming in ink. As the paper passes over the roller it will deposit ink to the back of the paper. now why is the ink getting there? Well its just possible that air hole in the cartridge is blocked but you say you have replaced the cartridge. Ah but with what? are you using recycled cartridges? they may be filled with ink and not dye which is what originals use. Dye is much thicker than ink and ink maybe leaking from the cartridge. The seal in the carriage may not be making a clean contact with the base of the black cartridge causing it to leak when the carriage is moving. Check those out and repost if still having the problem.
Good luck

My dcp165c printer print quality prints black & yellow colour. i clean print head through maintance 76 but problem cannot be solved

How is the printer printing black and yellow color? Is it a smudge?

When I print, the pages are smudged with ink. What should I do?
Description:
- If smudged stains appear at the top center of the printed page:
  • Make sure the paper is not too thick or curled.
Also, verify that the appropriate paper is being used and that the paper type set in the machine matches the media used.
  • Make sure the paper is not curled when you print on the back side of the paper with the Print Odd Pages and Print Even Pages settings.

- If smudged stains appear at the right or left corner of the printed page:
  • Make sure the paper is not curled when you print on the back side of the paper with the Print Odd Pages and Print Even Pages settings.

- If smudged stains appear on the reverse side or at the bottom of the page:
NOTE: Illustrations shown below are from the representative product and may differ from your Brother machine.
  • Make sure the printer platen is not dirty with ink.

How to clean the machine's printer platen

    1. Unplug the machine from the AC power outlet.
    2. Lift the scanner cover until it locks securely in the open position.
    3. Clean the machine's printer platen(1) and the area around it, wiping off any scattered ink with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth.

    4. Close the scanner cover.

  • Make sure you are using Genuine Brother Innobella™ Ink.

  • Make sure you are using the paper support flap.

Black smear on underside of paper

Sounds as though you have a leaking black cartridge and ink has got on to the platen.
Open the machine as if you replace a cartridge. Remove the whole print head unit. You can do it without taking the inks out. What does the underneath of the print unit look like? Pretty messy I'm guessing.
Clean all the surplus ink of the base of the print head and put it to one side. Now look at the platen (that's the long strip of metal that will be underneath the paper while the print head is passing). Clean that with a damp tissue. If you look carefully at that metal strip you should find a long wiggly piece of foam inset into a cut-out in the metal. Gently prise it out and wash it in warm water - take are not to stretch it or break it.
Now with a torch or lamp look at the right hand end where the print head goes when it is resting. That may well be messy too. Using dry paper towel try to absorb as much ink out of that area as you can (you'll get you fingers very dirty!).
When you think you have got as much out as you can use a damp tissue to clean off any dried on bits.
Now carefully refit the foam bit back into its slot - it will only go in one way - and then refit the print unit.
Close the lid and do a print. Hopefull y everything should be OK.

Solid black ink line on the back of any page copied, so heavy it bleeds through the paper

Hello. When you get ink on the back side of the paper that indicates that the printer roller [or platen] is dirty. To clean it get some paper towels and some rubbing alcohol. then, dampen a paper towel and start cleaning the roller. Carefully work your way from one end to the other and then all the way around the entire roller.

The PGBK cartridge seems to be leaking and leaves a smear of ink all the way down the paper on the opposite side of the print.

That's ink from the cleaning station backing up thru the exit rollers. You need a shop to clean up the extra ink and install a shield that will prevent that in the future.

MP830, how to retrieve faxes in memory to my PC

-

- A margin appears
on printouts.
2 B Paper feed
Improper paper
feeding:
- Multi-feeding
- Skewed paper
feeding
- Paper jam
- Paper feeding from the
ASF
- Plain paper
- Highest print speed
(Custom setting to 5)
- In the high temperature
and high humidity
environment
- In the low temperature
and low humidity
environment
- With the maximum
amount of paper set (13
mm)
In the high temperature
and high humidity
environment, paper
becomes wavy; in the
low temperature and
low humidity
environment, paper
curls significantly.
When the maximum
amount of paper is set
in the ASF, and if the
paper-return tab fits in a
wave or curl of the
paper, the tab slips and
does not catch paper
properly, causing paper
feed problems.
- Reduce the amount of
paper set in the ASF to
half (approx. 5 mm
high).
- Multiple sheets of
paper feed at the
same time.
- Paper feeds at an
angle.
- A paper jam
occurs.
3 C Print results
Skewed paper
feeding (at the
level of +/- 1%)
- Paper feeding from the
ASF
- Credit Card size
Since coaxial tolerance
between the pinch roller
and the LF roller, which
determines the paper
feed alignment, is
0.2mm, skewed paper
feeding can occur.
However, according to
the field data of current
models, the skewness
level caused by the
coaxial tolerance of
0.2mm is within the
criteria of +/- 1%, thus
the phenomenon is left
as is.
- Align the paper guide to
the paper edge tighter
than usual.
- Paper feeds at an
angle.
- A margin appears
on printouts.
4 A Print results
Soiling on the
back side of paper
(lines or streaks
parallel to the
paper feed
direction)
- After continuous
borderless printing of
small sized paper (such
as 4 x 6), when a larger
sized paper (such as A4)
is printed.
- With Photo Paper Plus
Double Sided or
postcards, the
phenomenon is likely to
be noticeable and to be
complained of by users,
as printing is performed
on both sides of such
paper.
In borderless printing,
printing is performed to
the size slightly larger
than the paper size, and
ink off the paper is
absorbed by the platen's
ink absorber. Absorbed
ink may attach to the
platen rib(s) after
several dozen sheets are
printed, causing soiling
at the leading edge of
paper or on the back
side of paper.
1. Perform Bottom plate
cleaning (from the
MP driver or via the
operation panel) up to
3 times*1.
2. If soiling on the paper
still remains after 3
times of Bottom plate
cleaning, wipe the
platen rib(s) and their
surroundings with a
cotton swab.
- Paper gets
smeared.
- The back side of
paper gets
smeared.
Soiling on paper in
automatic duplex
printing (lines or
streaks
perpendicular to
the paper feed
direction)
- Automatic duplex
printing (Photo Paper
Plus Double Sided,
postcards, plain paper)
On the rib(s) inside the
sheet feed unit used for
duplex printing, ink
mist may accumulate,
smearing paper.
Temporary operational
solution:
Cancel automatic duplex
printing, and manually
print each side of paper.
Cleaning by user:
1. Perform Bottom plate
cleaning (from the
MP driver or via the
operation panel) up to
3 times*1.
- Paper gets
smeared.
- The back side of
paper gets
smeared.
- Even after Bottom
plate cleaning
was performed,
and the platen
ribs were cleaned
with cotton swab,
paper gets
smeared.

Black ink smears everything.

you may have to clean the print head. since the jam cause the smear, and there still have some ink left on the print head.
