Is there any magnets around? Does the sun hit yhe screen? Could there be a recall on it?

Rainbows of a vetical or horizontal persuasion is death of the video contrtoller boards Very common in LG and in some models have been recalled especially in the 42 inch model Contact your seller and see what your chances are of an upgrade. If its still under warranty (5 years parts) then get it in fast as this is expensive and not a DIY

hi there.its likely that the lower y-drive panel has died.this is a very common problem with this model.the easy way is to remove the panel from the set completely,power it up and you should be greeted with the top half of the picture.this means ic failure,usually the bottom one for some odd reason.not replaceable unless you have the gear,these ics are available from dalbani(nikkai)for those interested.be extra careful with the four ribbon cables when removing/refitting.damage to these writes off the display panel.hope this helps somewhat,regards,steve.

If the Video (Picture/Pix) is gone but you can hear the Audio (sound), then it could mean the YSUS PCB Assembly is gone/kaput/finish. Can replace the PCB, not repair the PCB due to timing circuitry involve. Cost maybe roughly $500 depending where you located. The PCB is located on the left hand side of your TV when you are facing the back (Back open). Might find 3-4 brown flex membrane connecting to the plasma panel. The PCB has a silver or black aluminum heatsink (big) on it.
