Question about Panasonic DMR-ES40V DVD-Video Recorder

1 Answer

My Panasonic DMR-ES40V will power up, but I have no video being generated out any of the video outputs. Audio works fine. Power button will power up device but does not light up. Have tried unplugging it for 1 week and plugging it back in. No difference. The video will flicker on the television on power up from all outputs, but no image. Time to throw it away?

Yes. Already bought a JVC replacement assuming the end result would be a required repair. Couldn't find any obvious defective components upon initial inspection. Decided not to dig deeper without a schematic.

Hi,
Problem seems in either with video processor circuitry or sub power supply section.
Qualified tech is required to check this unit as per service manual trouble shooting chat.
I suspect its repair would cost you round about new unit price because these units are not suppose to repair on component level and board replacement costs much.
New unit is better option.
Thanks.

Ron, F60 is a general error code usually related to a failure on the video processing board. You could fix this by just replacing that board. Try to place it in standby mode first by unplugging it, wait a couple of minutes and then plug it back in. When the 000000's starts, hold down the power button for 15-20seconds. The unit should then be in standby mode. From this mode try to start it normally using the power button and see if it cleared the error. You could also try a complete reset by powering the unit off and press and hold the "Stop" and "Channel Up" buttons at the same time for a few seconds while powering the unit up. Hope this helps, good luck.

F60 ERROR CODE ON PANASONIC DMR-ES40V

Unplug the unit for 24-hours. I know, it should not take that long, but in this case I tried shorter periods WITHOUT success!

Just before plugging in unit depress and hold POWER button. You are supposed to hold it for 30-seconds after plugging in, but in my case I did it for 60-seconds. This results in a MASTER RESET that clears all errors, resets interlocks, etc. I could not get past a DVD failure problem, but when I discovered this process everything worked fine!!

Good luck! Hope it works for you too.

Unplug the unit.
Plug back in and wait till you see 000000.
Press and hold the power button in at least ten seconds or until the clock shows up.
This worked to fix mine.

Panasonic ES40v - Can't play DVD's - Incorrect region

I had the same trouble, also wouldn't play back discs that I recorded using it. The commonly listed reset of channel up and down at the same time was not meant for this model.
Below is the official solution that was sent to me by panasonic.
After using this method to reset my player it worked great. it was just like taking it out of the box for the first time.

Panasonic DMR-ES40V, error codesF60 & U99...

Same problem. Contacted Panasonic. Technician indicated that there is a problem between the CPU and the timer. The unit is three years old and out of warranty, so he offered Panasonic's service at $120 for labor plus any parts.

So I gave it one more try. I pressed and held the REC on the Power button for about 10 seconds, which reset the unit. Then I was able to play a DVD and eject it.

Hope this helps with your unit.
