    Thank you very much.
That seems a very comprehensive reply.
I suspect I will have to get an engineer in.

There are a few things that could cause that...
First, make sure that you do not have a loose electrical connection. Make sure that you remove ALL power to the dyer and check the connection at the power cord in the back, that everything is tight. If the connections are overheated and burnt you will need to replace them.
Next, make sure that there is nothing stuck in the blower/fan part of the dryer. It is possible for somethings to get through the lint screen and flapp against the blower wheel and cause a buzz. The dryer may have to be dissasembled quite a bit to get to the blower.
Finally it may be a symptom of the motor going bad. Usually if that is happening the motor will pull high amps. also. To check this turn your dryer on at a fan only or no heat setting and check the amp draw. Check the name plate rating on the motor to see if the current draw is hgiher than it should be.

Out hotpoint dryer is 8 years old and juist

Sounds like the drum bearing or shaft is worn.
Remove rear panel of dryer, you should see the drum shaft, check for wear here.

Loud noise as drum turns, gets louder as speed increases.

There is no doubt that the drum bearings have failed from your description.
The normal procedure is to replace the whole drum and tub assy as a complete unit, this makes it a fairly straight forward repair, though relatively expensive.
To strip it down and replace worn bearings, is a very involved repair, and not one I would recommenend.
If the washer is less than 5 years old, then you can get it done under the Hotpoint 5 year part guarantee, but you would have to contact Hotpoint about this.

Plz rate my solution.
Thankyou.

Makes a loud buzzing noise and does not get hot

Have seen this many times.

Sounds like a bad CAP since a bad diode would blow the fuse and a bad mag would likely do the same thing.

Since yours is making the loud 60hz buzz you need to replace the capacator that will likely fix the problem. A $10 fix
