Mouse has a mind of it's own...often skipping across the screen without any assistance. Is there a patch available?

It might be due to scroll speed of mouse going bit high.
to adjust the same...click on start...control panel...mouse icon...mouse properties window would open... click on the pointers tab...adjust the pointer speed setting... this should help in fixing the issue.

Fairly old post but this answer might help someone in the future with a mouse issue I just had.
I came into possession of a used Dell laser corded mouse (one with a cursor adjust speed on it and a couple of side buttons which I haven't used yet).
It was pretty jittery (cursor jumping about 10mm in random directions) making it hit or miss to click on things and the buttons were erratic (when dragging with the left mouse button it would sometimes act as if I had clicked it or moved the scroll wheel).
I tried using it on different surfaces (multi-coloured mouse mats can cause issues especially if there is red on them) and blowing on the laser and into the housing with my breath and then "air in a can" in an attempt to clean it, all to no effect.
I moved the on unit cursor adjust speed to low and the Control Panel mouse speed to high and that kept the jitters to a manageable level but there was still the button issue.
Next thing that happened with it was the cursor started moving in a steady direction on its own. I stopped that by moving it but it started again (towards 8 o'clock both times) when I stopped moving it.
As the last act of a desperate man (prior to retiring it) I tapped the hand end of it firmly on a foam mouse pad a couple of times (once on each corner) and all the issues were fixed! Might have been some dirt in there or a loose connection. Still going strong after a week or so. Nothing wrong with it now - it is a good mouse - maybe it just needed to know who was boss lol.

You may be a victim of spyware/maleware infections. You will need to have your system cleaned. This should help resolve your issue.

I would recommend trying CCleaner first to see if this helps you. Please keep in mind this will not rid your system of everything just keep you a float and offer you a fighting chance.

Please keep me posted and updated on your issue. I am here for you and will see your issues out till resolved.

Have a great and wonderful day :)

My sony lcdtv kdf-55wf655 has a blue line across the bottom of the screen and a patch of blue in the lower right hand corner

Your screen has probably been bumped by something.
The line may be possible to be fixed by an engineer reseating the cables internally, but the patchy area is a pressure fault and cannot be fixed without replacing the complete screen.
You can get these patches on things like laptop screens too, where somebody has pressed a finger on them a bit to hard.

My Kensington 72216 mouse makes selections automatically.

Have you installed the drivers for your mouse? Sounds like you need to install the drivers. I looked on there site and they don't have separate drivers for each mouse. I'm guessing you need to download the mouse works program and install it. Here is the link to the website to get that software. After you install that software for the operating system your working on, your mouse should work fine. If i helped please leave me a rating. If i didn't help, comment and ill try again.

Every kind of mouse won't work!

Normal 0 Turn the mouse over and find the small rest/connect button on the bottom of the mouse and press it to Reset/Connect the mouse to the receiver and work properly.
If not, try pressing the receiver button and then press the mouse. This should be done whenever you change batteries or glitch.
Hope this helps you. Bud

GO TO REGISTRY EDIT, FIND HKEY_CONTROLPANEL\MOUSE.

DELETE THE KEYS THEN RESTART WINDOWS.
WINDOWS WILL REBUILD THE KEYS.
IT MAY BE THAT YOUR REG KEY IS CORRUPTED.
