What is the firmware version of DNS-323? Many bugs were fixed in recent firmware revisions. You can see your version in the top right corner in the web interface after you log-in. See on the D-Link website if there is a newer firmware available.
When it doesn't work, what you have to do to make it work? Reboot windows? Or reboot the DNS-323? It can also be issue with your firewall or Windows configuration. Which Windows version do you use?

If you disabled the firewall and the Easy Search utility still can't find it, you could try searching for the answer in the device's user manual:

I'd try two things. Boot in Safe Mode with Networking and disable all firewalls, see if you find the NAS. Your issues sure screams firewall configuration to me.

When I access the DNS-313 via it's Web interface and try to schedule a backup, the TEST URL fails. Do I need IIS & FTP installed on each (XP PRO) PC to be backed up ? Is there a 'user-friendly' way to...

This may happen because it cannot find the hostname of your device. Do the following:

1. Make sure your device is configured to use a Static IP address
2. Type in the IP address (instead of hostname) in the test page

This should fix your problem

Hello, I just bought DNS-323 and trying to start up it. I?m using one hard drive Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3500630AS SATA 3G HDD 500G. I installed it in HDD1 slot and start the system. DNS-323 received...

I read that there are problems in some applications if you use only one disk in the 323. Try to move your disk to the other slot to see if this fixes your problem. Alternatively (if u have the money), you can try buying another hard disk of same brand/model and install it on the other slot.

You can then try setting up your device as a RAID1 or bigger (not recommended) JBOD configuration

Mapping of D-link DNS-323 drive doesn't succeed.

I had the same problem when I was attempting to map the drive using the hostname of the DNS-323. I solved the problem by typing in the IP address instead. Do the following:

1. Login to the DNS-323 as admin
2. Make sure you use static IP's to make sure that the address does not change in the future.
3. Go to the drive mapping page and use IP address instead of hostname in the drive mapping (e.g. \\192.168.1.1\Volume_1)
4. Make sure you use a valid username and password.
5. Check the connection configuration by clicking on the Test button.

You should get a successful outcome, otherwise check all the settings again until you are successful

I am setting up the D Link DNS 323 but I cannot get6 past the admin password screen. it says in the manual to leave it blank, but this does not work

If it's a brand new out of the box DNS-323 it should be:
Username: admin
Password: <leave blank>

If this is not working, check for CAPS-lock, or perform a reset of the device (see the manual).

Looking for best deal on DNS-323 + 3TB hard drive

My personal choice would be for Western Digital green series drives

7200 RPM drives with as large a CACHE as possible would be the main part of my specs.

Faster speeds are becoming available but they are still quite new technology so just for now you might want to cross them off the list too

Seagate has taken some hits recently with firmware issues so for the moment they would not be on my list either

SATA interface hard drives ar the only ones supported by this unit so other than what I have said the choice is quite large.

Can not access Dlink DNS313

When you said you tried resetting, did you mean you clicked on the reset button inside the hardware or did you mean you just rebooted?

* If you clicked on the rest buttion, then you need to configure again from scratch. Not sure if your data will still be available though.

* If you just rebooted, then the problem may lie in your LAN configuration. Do the following:

1. Try to ping the device using a PC connected to the same network.
2. If you are using DHCP, your device may just have been assigned a different IP. Try to ping all devices in your network or use a network scanner (e.g. SoftPerfect) to find out the IP address given to it.
3. Once you get the IP address, assign a static IP address to your device that is beyond the DHCP scope. This will ensure that your IP does not change and you will not have a conflict with DHCP assigned IP's.
