For repairs of the electronics & switches on this model, you need to pull the front panel away from the rest of the enclosure.

To do that, pry the front of the dryer top up with a putty knife or slim screwdriver inserted on the front left and right, under the lid. (be careful to not chip the paint.) The top acts like a hinged lid that can be pushed up and back and stay attached if you like.

Once the top is opened, there is one screw on each side to be removed, then the front panel can be pulled forward. There are two connector on the right side that need to be disconnected. The front panel can then be lifted up and you can get at the rear of the electronics panel.

I hope that helps.

Where is the thermal fuse located on this dryer? please

Hello Leslie

I don't know what is the brand of you dryer. I will make you a preference this brand.

In GE dryers, the thermal fuse--sometimes called a safety thermostat--is located behind the drum on the inside of the dryer. To access the thermal fuse you will need to open the dryer from the top. Though it may sound a bit daunting, opening the top of the dryer to reveal its inner workings is surprisingly simple. To open the dryer top you will need a flat-head screwdriver, putty knife or similar tool. Insert the screwdriver or putty knife underneath the dryer's top panel. Slide the putty knife along the bottom of the panel until you locate the two clips that hold it in place. These clips are usually located about four inches in from either side of the top dryer panel. Apply pressure to the clips to release them. Once the clips have been released, lift up the top panel and use the supports to keep it upright. Look inside the dryer, behind the drum, to find what looks like a round metal pan. This metal pan is actually the dryer's heating element housing. The thermal fuse will be located next to the heating element housing. Look for a white strip with two wires connected to it and you've located the thermal fuse in your GE dryer.

How do i check the heating element on a kenmore 400 series dryer?

There are 4 different designs that used on these dryers and each one has its own specific way to access the element, blower, fuses. etc In this FAQ I will describe each design and method to access for each one. ---------------Design 1: This design for this dryer has the heating components located in the front of the machine, which means to gain access you'll have to lift the top and remove the front. You can visually verify this specific type because the lint screen is located inside the dryer requiring you to open the door to gain access to it. As with any do itself repair, always unplug the machine before you start. Here's the method of access listed in numerical order. 1) Remove the lower kick plate by pressing in the two clips, one on each side located in between the upper and lower portion of the front In doing this you'll gain access to the element, located on the right hand side facing, the high limit and thermostat fuse located on the element, the cycling thermostat, located on the blower housing, and thermal fuse, located next to the cycling thermostat. In gas models the gas coils and ignitor may be located on the left hand side facing. If changing the belt, rollers or motor, continue to step two. 2) Lift the top by placing a flat head screwdriver in between the front and the top of the dryer and pry it upwards. In some cases there are two metal clips, one on the left and one on the right, that need to be pushed forward to lift the top up. 3) With the top up and the kickplate removed take the door springs off, one on each side, and remove the door by taking out the 4 screws one upper left and right, one lower left and right, off and don't forget to disconnect your door switch-----------------Design 2 : In this design the heating components are located in the rear of the machine. All you have to do is get behind the dryer, remove the 9 1/4" screws and remove the panel. The element eill on the right had side with the two fuses located on it, the cycle and thermal fuse will be on the lower left on the blower housing. To access the belt, rollers etc, remove the lint trap on top, take out the two screws that are underneath it and using a flat head screwdriver pop the top up. Next, located the two screws that are on the upper left and right inside front of the machine that hold the front. Remove these and then you'll be able to lift and pull the dryer front completely off.--------------Design 3 : In this design the components are located in the front of the machine, but to access them you'll follow the method used in design 2 for accessing the belt, rollers, etc.take out the two screws that are underneath it and using a flat head screwdriver pop the top up. Next, located the two screws that are on the upper left and right inside front of the machine that hold the front. Remove these and then you'll be able to lift and pull the dryer front completely off. The set up will be like design one.--------------- Note: The best way to determine if your dryer is desgin 2 or 3, remove lint trap and pop the top. When you've got this done, you'll be able to look in between the inside rear wall and the rear panel and see if the element, fuses atc are there. If not it will be design 3---------Design 4 : HE, HE2, Duet, etc the way you take the top off is a little different. For these machines, there are 3 to 4 screws located on the top back side you'll need to remove, and then the dryer top can be slid back and removed. From there you'll remove the kickplate in come cases by taking the 3 or 4 screws off located at the bottom of the kickplate. With that removed you will be able to remove the front, but only after you remmove the control panel. The In some cases the components will be located in the rear like the second design.

First check the tumblers inside the drum to make sure that none of them are loose. AFter that you'll need to gain access to the inner workings of the machine.

Maytag gas dryer broken tumber belt. how do i replace it myself? the tumbler doesn't turn, the belt thah goes around it is broken. i need to put a new belt on.

Each dryer is made differently on how to access the drum (tumbler) and belt replacement. If you can provide a model #, that would be very helpful. On most dryers the model# is located on the door frame usually to the left when you open the door. This will get you started in the right direction.

How do I open the front bottom of my Kenmore 90 Series dryer to vacuum out under the dryer drum?

Disconnect power then look for the clips that hold the bottom panel secured. The clips are located on the top or at the sides of the bottom panel depending on the model of your dryer. Once located, pry the lower access panel off with a flat-head screwdriver or any similar prying tool at the location of the clips as shown.

I have a Maytag MDE4700A electric dryer. It quit working (turning) but still heated up. I took the cabinet apart and found that the belt was broke. Need some assistance on beginner steps for replacing...

Disconnect power to the dryer then open the door and remove the center screw of each hinge secured to the inner flange of the front panel in the door opening. Grasp the door with both hands and lift the door in the hinge area then draw the door assembly away from the dryer to disengage the hinges from the slots in the front shroud.
b488499.jpg

Remove the four screws located vertically along the inside lip of the door opening. These screws hold the front panel to the front shroud assembly.

Once the four screws are removed, grasp and press in on the upper edges of the front panel posts then twist it inward to release the clips holding it to the cabinet. Tilt the top of the front panel and move it away from the dryer.

The top cover is held on each side of the cabinet by two hold down brackets. Locate and remove the 5/16" hex-head screws holding each bracket then swing the bracket to the outside and unhook it from the slot in the top cover lip.

Disconnect the wires from the door switch, sensor bar, and the lamp holder then unsnap the lamp holder wire harness from the front shroud wire retaining clip.

Remove the four perimeter screws holding the shroud and tumbler front assembly to the cabinet. Remove the lowest outside screw at each corner then the top screw on each side.

Pull the shroud and tumbler front assembly out and away from the tumbler while slightly lifting the top cover.

Kneel near the front of the dryer and reach your left hand inside the dryer at 8 o'clock position and your right hand under the tumbler as close as possible to the blower then grasp the idler puller with your left hand and pull the idler upward and to the left.
71aab86.jpg

Slip the belt off the motor pulley and the back of the tumbler then pull the tumbler out of the cabinet while lifting the top cover.

Place the belt onto the outside of the tumbler and position it 1 1/2 inches in front of the rear baffle mounting screws with the ribbed side facing the tumbler.

Position the tumbler into the rear felt seal and resting it onto the rear rollers then lower the front of the tumbler onto the blower housing.

Kneel near the front of the dryer and reach your left hand inside the dryer at 8 o'clock position and your right hand under the tumbler as close as possible to the blower then locate the belt and create a small loop with your right hand, ensuring the belt is free of twist.

Position the open end of the loop onto the motor pulley with your right hand. Grasp the idler pulley with your left hand then pull the idler upward and to the left to clear the drive belt.

Relax your left hand and allow the idler pulley to rest down onto the belt. Grasp the baffles with both hands and rotate the tumbler clockwise for the belt to align itself.

Reinstall the shroud and tumbler front assembly in reverse of the removal steps. Lift the front inner edge of the tumbler to allow the front of the tumbler to rest on the teflon bearings on the shroud and tumbler front assembly. Check the felt seal to ensure that it is outside the lip of the tumbler.

Secure the top cover with the hold down brackets then push the front panel posts against the clips in the cabinet until it engage.

Insert the door hinge tabs into the slots in the front shroud and secure the hinges with the screws removed previously to complete the procedure.

This repair is made through the front of the dryer by removing 2 phillips head screws located approx. 2" off the floor on each side. http://www.repairclinic.com/0100_18.asp, pull the front panel toward you from the bottom to disengage the front clips from the top panel, and set to the side,(wires can remain attached).

Remove the 4 - 5/16" screws from the front bulkhead. pull the bulkkhead toward you to disengage from the tumbler.
Remove the drum belt- see diagram, click link, http://www.repairclinic.com/0079.asp#DiagramE

Now you can remove the old seal and install the new one. To order new part, click the link below.
