Question about Maytag Neptune MAH6500A Front Load Washer

Cycle runs normally but the washer does not stop after spin

The wash cycle runs normally but the washer does not shut off after spinning. The washer periodically will spin the tub - similar to when it is in the wash mode. This will continue until it is stopped manually.

Thanks for your reply/input. The spin cycle has completed and it could be in the "shakeout" period but it never stops the shakeout which is a new behavior. I did this all night and did not stop. I can stop the machine manually and after a while the door will unlock and the clothes are completely spun. The spin cycle spins up to full speed from what I can tell - even the max extract speed it appears.

That may be the issue. I believe this version of the machine has had problems with the door lock. I believe it has a wax motor door lock mechanism that has failures.

  • kmoynihan Feb 22, 2008

I replaced the wax motor since it was an older version that other threads said could damage the control board. This did not fix the problem. The door lock does not seem to be the problem. If I press the start/stop button to turn off then the machine stops and the door unlocks after a short period.

The problem seems to be with the timing of the shakeout period. It does not end on its own.

I had this same problem and discovered that the control board and wax motor needed to be replaced.  The R11 resistor burnt out.
Oh, by the way this is a Maytag MAH4000 washer.

When you stop the machine has the water all drained out? Also, does it get through the complete Spin cycle or does it start the slow tumbling early? There are some machines that have a "shakeout" period after the high speed Spin.

This problem occurred three months ago and I ran the washer a couple of times empty, then put in a small load of clothes to wash and it spun out and has been running fine until today

I don't know specifically about your machine but I think the problem is with the door lock. Again, on most machines with a shakeout it can go on and on until the door unlocks. Does your machine have a door UNLOCKING solenoid or does the door lock just lose power at the end of the cycle. It may be that you just have a very weak solenoid to unlock the door.

There are some machines for which the shakeout is for a defined period, after which the door unlocks. There are other where the door unlocks at the end of the cycle but the shakeout continues until you actually open the door. In either case the door should unlock by itself at the end of the cycle without you having to press the start/stop button. It sounds now like there is no automatic signal from the control board at the end of the cycle to unlock the door. If you can't live with this, you may have to replace the electronic controller.

Machine will not spin or drain water.

I have a problem with my MW512AU. Sometimes it drains after wash cycle, but sometimes it sticks when it goes to spin, doesn't get up to speed, water comes on for about 10 seconds and shuts off, and it tries to spin again. If I hit the wash progress switch it goes directly to final spin and works ok. I then have to run a 2nd wash cycle to rinse the clothes. I also noticed a buzzing sound when I turn on the power point, which lasts about 3 seconds before stopping. It will come back on every 3-4 minutes for 30 seconds. This is with the machine power switch off. It powers on normally.

Kenmore HE2 won't finish spin cycle

you have blockage in you drain plug. to solve this problem you'll have to remove the lower front panel of your machine by removing the 3 (1/4") screws on the vary bottom of the machine. once the panel is removed you'll see a 1 1/2" white PVC drainage plug. turn the inner plug to the left in till open. (WARNING ALL THE WATER IN THE DRUM WILL DRAIN THOUGH THIS PLUG) remove debris likes socks or everything that's there replace the panel and your all set.

Bosch classixx 1000 washing machine - stops on spin

Washing machine stops at the spin cycle - light flashes. Have to drain water out manually. Happened last week and was then able to run an empty rinse cycle. Machine worked normally for another week. Same problem today but have had to drain water manually from the drum after trying an empty 90 wash and rinse cycle (both stopped on the Spin and flashed). Any ideas? Thanks. x

Squealing noise during spin cycle

The spin cycle activates the fast mode on the motor, squealing normal occurs due to belt slippage. I would check your belts (look for cracks. Check the belt tension as well, most washers have an adjustment, normally on the motor that allows you to increase the tension of the belt.
