Question about Cullmann Cameras

Is there any way I can use my old Cullmann MC30 with a newish Sony Alpha200. I understand that the Cullmann may have a high voltage sync pulse and wonder if there any devices which would allow me to use my flash with the above camera without frying the electronics??? (I'm no expert so words of one syllable would be most welcome!!!)

The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor is a permanent magnet generator, known as a variable reluctance sensor. The CKP sensor produces an AC voltage of different amplitude and frequency. The frequency depends on the velocity of the crankshaft. The AC voltage output depends on the crankshaft position and the battery voltage. The CKP sensor works in conjunction with a 7X reluctor wheel attached to the crankshaft. The CKP sensor produces seven pulses for each revolution of the crankshaft. The pulse from the 10-degree notch is known as the sync pulse. The sync pulse is used to synchronize the coil firing sequence with the crankshaft position. The CKP sensor is used for ignition timing, the fuel injector timing, misfire diagnostics and tachometer display. The CKP sensor is connected to the ECM by a signal circuit and a low reference circuit.
The best way to test is with a lab scope !

chk for any electricity or magnetic interferanc. change the location to the TV. switch of the tv fro 5 min and restart it again back.

Can i use a Cullmann C28 flash with Canon Eos 400d?


Doubtful. I tried similar with a different brand of flash designed for a 35mm. It worked for about 20 shots then the diodes fried. I've since bought a used Speedlight for my 400D and it works great.

You are going to need a schematic---the sync pulse either comes on a line from the high voltage transformer or the Jungle chip---my money would be a open resistor from the Flyback with that pulse for sync.

On the 2.5L 4cylinder engine the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor is located in the distributor.
The sensor contains a Hall effect device called a sync signal generator to generate a fuel sync signal. This sync signal generator detects a rotating pulse ring (shutter) on the distributor shaft. The pulse ring rotates 180 degrees through the sync signal generator. Its signal is used in conjunction with the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor to differentiate between fuel injection and spark events. It is also used to synchronize the fuel injectors with their respective cylinders.
When the leading edge of the pulse ring (shutter) enters the sync signal generator, the following occurs: The interruption of magnetic field causes the voltage to switch high resulting in a sync signal of approximately 5 volts. The CMP sensor is used in conjunction with the crankshaft position sensor to differentiate between fuel injection and spark events. It is also used to synchronize the fuel injectors with their respective cylinders. The sensor generates electrical pulses. These pulses (signals) are sent to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The PCM will then determine crankshaft position from both the camshaft position sensor and crankshaft position sensor.

If rolling in a right to left and not up down it is a sync problem--horizontal sync comes from one of two places in general---a pulse off the high voltage transformer or directly off of what is called in the trade the Jungle IC.

That is not a joke--Most of these sets use a large IC (63 pins or more not unusual) that contains: color, video, vertical drive, ABL and much more---so much is crammed into that chip it decades ago was named the Jungle for clear reasons.

A schematic and or scope may be needed to trace and find what is bad.

if off the high voltage transformer (more common in old sets than new ones) it will be a open resistor.

If at the jungle you would have to go to the pin with the sync and follow it out to see if none at source or if lost somewhere down the stream.

TV Blinks 7 times


The 7 blinks indicate a safety shutdown due to over-voltage in the high voltage section. The high voltage has exceeded 33,000V. This is usually a problem with the power supply regulator. I need to look up the specific part for you. If you are comfortable working inside the set and can solder, you should be able to repair this yourself.
