How do I switch/upgrade my motherboard from a 32bit to a 64bit please

Having a 32-bit or 64-bit operating system mainly depends upon the operating system that is loaded on your primary hard drive (generally drive C:). However, your motherboard's components, i.e., processor and amount of system RAM, will be a major factor in determining whether you can only run a 32-bit operating system, or upgrade to a 64-bit system.

Can't detect XP discs in win 64 bit

Hello Joe, 64-bit processing is faster than 32-bit processing because the CPU is handling more bits at once, However, a 64-bit OS requires more resource than a 32-bit OS, A 64-bit OS requires that device drivers operating in kernel mode be a 64-bit drivers, These drivers must be available from the device manufacturer. An application is compiled to process 64-bit or 32-bits. A 64-bit OS can run either 64-bit applications or 32-bit applications, but 64-bit applications are faster also 64-bit applications cannot run on a 32-bit OS.
A 32-bit OS can only address up to 4 GB of memory, More than that might be on the motherboard, but the OS cannot use it, because it does not have enough memory addresses to assign to the physical memory. A 64-bit OS theoretically can address up to 1 terabyte of memory although in practice, most motherboards can only hold from 12 to 16 GB of memory.( A terabyte is roughly 1000 GB or 1 trillion bytes). If you open many applications at the same time and have high computing needs and enough hard drive space and memory, you can benefit from 64-bit computing. To get most out of it, the processor, motherboard, operating system, drivers and applications must all be 64-bit, and you should have installed the maximum amount of memory the motherboard supports.

Hello Roy,

Did you install Windows 7 32 bit or 64 bit?

You can check by right clicking on "computer" then click on properties.

Then check System Type.

If it says 32 bit and you want to have 64 bit, you should INSTALL windows 7 64 bit on your system.

I hope this helped you.

Give me the some example of 64 bit operating system and what is the hardware config. to run them like how much ram requierd.

Windows Operating System comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Examples are Windows XP (64-Bit) and Windows 7 (64-Bit). A 64-Bit Operating System is capable of handling large amounts of data. Hence, it is clear that newer hardware supports 64-bit operation. As for processor Core 2 Duo or higher is required with RAM at least 2 GB or more.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

Can support p5gdx2 64 bite

Yes that board is 64 bit compatible. You could load Windows XP 64 bit or WIndows 7 64 Bit. Just make sure you download all the 64 bit drivers from ASUS's site, or it won't work.
