Replace the rtc contactor overload on the compressors side body,it supplies current to start and operate the compressor,if the relay on the overload goes bad the compressor will try to run on the start windings and overheat and will not operate to cool the unit properly even if it sounds like its running,it just unplugs from the compressor

Ice forming

  • One cause of this is the compressor is going bad or Freon is low. The freezer is no longer able to achieve the zero temperature requiring the compressor to run continually. The refrigerator because of the continues running begins to freeze up. Food in the refrigerator begins to freeze and the freezer is not as cold as it should. This results in a very expensive repair of replacement of the unit .
  • The defrost cycle is not working. Depending on the conditions the unit has a sensor that detects when the defrost cycle should initiate. If this fails to occur than ice builds up on the coils and air can no longer pass preventing the normal cooling process. Many models use a mechanical timer that stops. On some units the defrost cycle can be initiated via advancing the mechanical timer. This repair is a reasonable expense.
  • The third possibility is a door was left open and the unit iced up the cooling coils. Suggest in that case shut off the unit , remove the food and allow the unit to manually defrost, Restart and see if unit gets cold and defrost cycle is working.

Refrigerator is warm and will not cool food and the freezer is iced up

Theres the problem an iced up freezer, the cold for the food compartment comes via a fan in the freezer, no flow, no cold, firstly defrost it completely, check fans are working, if they are ok then it's probably your defrost hester element.

My GE 2008 side by side , the freezer is working but the food storage is not help ?

one of 2 things can be wrong,#1) if theres a heavy frost buildup on the rear inside wall of the freezer compartment then its a defrost issue, which will block air flow to the refrigerator side, take off back panel and test defrost heater and thermostat both on evaporator coil for continuity, thermostat has to be below 32 degrees to test good, most of the time its the hearter on G.E.. #2)if no frost buildup, then check the damper vent door between the freezer and refrigerator compartments and make sure its not stuck or broken shut and can no longer open and close to keep temperatures in refrigerator cold

FREEZER NOT FREEZING PROPERLY

There could be a large list of things that cause the freezer to warm up from the temperature it was before. The most likely reason is you probably have a defrost problem. Defrost heater, defrost thermostat and the defrost control are all things that may have failed. If your model is not a frost free let me know. Look inside freezer for a layer of frost building on the rear wall. If your refrigerator is not defrosting it will be a short time before the fresh food compartment begins to warm. To extend the time your refrigerator and freezer can keep food safe defrost by placing a bucket of hot water inside the freezer and close the door. Please place food from freezer and fresh food compartment into another refrigerator or cold storage area. By keeping doors shut as much as possible the refrigerator and freezer will last up to a week this way before defrosting again, Sea Breeze

Freezer frosting over vents, refrigerator not cold enough

Greetings,
i work on this for a living 33 years..sight unseen, I'd say the evaporator is froze over. Its missed its defrost..I suggest leave freezer door open and unplug for 24 hours to melt ice..There still will be a problem and this will continue, but this gives you temporary service. You;ll need a repair-person to fix it. The evaporator frrezes over blocking airflow to fresh -food section. This in turn can cause a fresh food and freezer failure..

GE fridge: Freezer working but fresh food side not cold

The problem is the refrigeration evaporator, located in the freezer section is blocked with frost and ice and not air can pass through it. Four different failed parts can cause this problem. The defrost timer, the defrost heater safety thermostat, the defrost heater, or the evaporator fan motor. Unless you are very good with a volt-ohm meter, it wiil be difficult to distinguish which one of these parts has failed. A qualifed refrigeration service tech or a good appliance service tech with a refrigeration certification can find this quickly.

Refrigerator and freezer not getting cold enough

If the problem just gradually started happening, it's possibly the defrost cycle that's not working right. Fridge doesn't defrost, the cooling system ices up, and the cold air can no longer travel through the fridge.

You can tell that's the problem if you fully defrost the fridge (turn it off for a day), then start it up again. If it works OK for a while, then does the same thing after a few weeks that's what it is. Either way, you need a repair person to fix it, or you need to defrost it regularly, but then what do you do with your food while you do that???

Freezer not cold

Could be alot of things. First thing: fully defrost the unit. It might be ice. One way is to shut it for about 2 days and let the rest of the ice melt. Clean the condenser coils. Check door gaskets. Restart the unit and check for refrigerant amount: Find the compressor from the back, clean off the largest pipe. Start unit ( must be off for at least half an hour). It will frost up. Does the frost stop after 5 minutes? If icy,dry or wet, you are okay.

Make sure your doors seal properly.

After that, might be the defrost timer or the control panel. Hard to tell.

Ice build up in back section of a Whirlpool no frost top freezer refrigerator 66"hx30"wx27"d

your sure the defrost cycle works? sounds to me its not. you need to remove the freezer back and check the defrost components. or put it in the defrost cycle and see if it is working. to get that much frost as you describe the dor would have to be left open. also check all door seals. let me know what you find and we can go from there
