Question about Kenmore 24032\24036 Top Load Washer

2463200 - loud bang then spin stopped

The washer was in the rinse, spin cycle and then a loud bang...everything came to a stop and the washer was 'humming' until I pulled out the dial to stop the action.

Pushed the dial back in and ran through the cycles...rinse allows water to enter the machine, however, there is no action on the wash, no spin....

any possible things to look for? - the lid switch is fine.

    Yes - humming....nothing else(!)

voltage as measured at the wall as well as the motors terminal block are OK....

where is circuit board? and can I do any diagnostics on this??

  • sam21957 Feb 18, 2008

Ok - this is where I am at -

After measuring voltage at wall, through timer, in and out at motor, all was well - the capacitor was humming so I swapped that out at minimal cost knowing full well that this was propably a waste of money - anyway, I took off the motor, transmission and shaft assembly ( also removed water pump from motor shaft) and it ran(!) - replaced everything including water pump and unit was frozen - only after I looked inside the water pump, did I discover a pair of my wifes panty hose which were wrapped around the impeller freezing it up, so when placed back not the motor, it was freezing the motor and the whole shootin' match...

After four hours, I have the machine back in working order and the wife is now going bare-legged for a while(!) - thanks for the efforts....

    ya machine is humming right??

if so motor is trying to start.. but it is not able to start..

now check if proper input voltage is coming in for the motor.. if yes then problem must be in next stage where circuit board is placed..

    check it

    thank you

    good luck

    ok fine

    >>Check the voltage at motor terminals which must be equal to the input voltage.

    >>As soon as u open the machine u can access the main circuit board

    >>also check if power board is working fine

Maytag Centennial washer makes loud bang and the end of cycle.

I don't think it would be the bearing, as no sounds abnormal occur during it's wash cycle. I think it's at the end of the spin dry cycle, that a "brake" is applied which stops the drum from spin drying, but is being applied overly hard, which causes the drum to "BANG", stop abruptly by the brake. Only a washer repairman could deal with that problem, but, it's NOT dangerous to the washer, IF that's what the problem is. Contact a washer repairman in your area, and they'll probably be able to tell you if it's THAT or something more serious, which I doubt. The reason why the washer moves a bit when at the end of the cycle is probably because the brake which causes the spin dry cycle to come to it's end, does so very fast, which displaces the centrifugal energy abruptly towards lateral motion. Not really dangerous either.

Loud banging noise during rinse

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the rinse or spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary. This will solve your problem.

Washer agitates off balance and makes a loud banging sound until movement stops at the beginning of rinse cycle, advice?

If it makes this noise in the agitate mode and not during the spin cycle, I would suspect that the transmission is going.

Loud bang during spin

Unplug it and plug it back in after a min. Try to put it threw a rinse spin cycle. Delicate option has a shorter rinse spin time.

See if it suds up, when you hear it trying to drain lift up the drain hose to the wall. It is the gray tube that has the elbow bend, might (should) be hooked to wall. If it isn't moving a good amount of water the machine isn't draining.
