The clicking noise would generally be the overload on the compresser. Which means the compresser is locked up and unable to pump and needs to be replaced. Sorry
You can install a 3in1 hard start which may free the compresser rotor and give you a little more time out of it but will need to be replaced eventually
Good luck
Replace the mother board. (it's the board you heard clicking) The only thing you hear running are fans. Check your model and serial number with your parts supplier, as you may be able to get the board free. (only certain models / serial numbers qualify)
Clicking noises usually come from the electronic control boards or mother board. Usually means it bad.
You can hear the fan clicking if it's hitting something like ice buildup.
That clicking noise is possibly your compressor overload kicking off because it cannot start the compressor. Most times the start relay or the start capacitor are defective. But because your refrigerator has a mother board located on the back and behind a panel. We need to consider the board is going out. Unplug the refrigerator and pull away from the wall. Remove the screws on the rear panel to expose the mother board. Need to look for burn marks on both sides or a signed that a relay has been over heating. The board is part number WR55X10656 If we find the board is OK, we can check the other components mentioned, Thanks, Sea Breeze
This happened to me with my side by side. The repair man came to my house, said that GE have cheap refrigerators because they are not meant to last very long. The mother board that controlled the temperature went out. A component in my freezer would get frosted up, but the heater would not kick in to reduce the freezing. Everything starts to warm up in the refrigerator as a result. A new motherboard would get the refrigerator back in timing.
